The Opportunity

If you are tired of being boxed into a rigid corporate safety role, this could be exactly what you are looking for.

Our client is a rapidly growing Australian equipment hire business supporting major transmission, utilities, telecommunications and infrastructure projects nationwide. Over the past few years, the business has grown from approximately seven employees to more than 35, while expanding its fleet to around 43 specialised units.

They are now looking for a QHSE Coordinator who wants the freedom to take ownership, make decisions and improve how safety and compliance are managed across the business.

This is a stand-alone position with genuine flexibility. You will divide your time between working from home, their head office and travelling to customer and project sites across Australia and New Zealand.

There will not be someone looking over your shoulder or managing your diary. You will be trusted to run your own schedule, stay on top of priorities and make sure the job gets done.

What You Will Be Responsible For

The position is approximately a 50/50 split between QHSE systems and practical site or project support.

Your three main priorities will be:

- Maintaining the company’s ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- Managing incident reporting, investigations, safety alerts and corrective actions
- Keeping a geographically dispersed workforce compliant with training, inductions, licences and customer requirements

You will also:

- Coordinate internal, surveillance and recertification audits
- Maintain policies, procedures, SWMS, risk assessments and management plans
- Conduct site inspections, safety audits and customer compliance visits
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports and corrective-action close-out
- Maintain employee and contractor information across customer compliance portals
- Prepare toolbox talks, safety communications and operator inductions




- Support project mobilisation, site access and onboarding requirements
- Assist with WorkCover, insurance and return-to-work matters when required
- Identify practical ways to simplify and improve existing QHSE processes

The Freedom to Make the Role Your Own

The company already has established and accredited management systems. You will not be walking into a broken safety function that needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

What the business wants is someone who will keep the fundamentals under control, respond quickly when something happens and continually look for sensible improvements.

You will have direct access to senior decision-makers and the freedom to introduce new ideas, update processes and remove unnecessary administration.

The business is not driven by layers of approvals or excessive KPIs. If you identify a better way to do something, you will be trusted to put it forward and help make it happen.

Flexibility and Travel

This is not a five-day-a-week office role.

You will have flexibility to work between home, the Braeside office and project locations. The leadership team also works across different states and understands that flexibility needs to work both ways.

Regular travel is an important part of the position. You could be visiting regional operations, interstate depots or major customer projects across Australia.

The standard framework is approximately 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, but the industry is fast-moving. Projects, incidents and mobilisation requirements can occasionally change outside those hours. You will need to be comfortable staying responsive while also having the freedom to manage your time around the needs of the role.

About You

You do not need 15 or 20 years of experience to be considered.

The business is more interested in whether you have the right foundation, attitude and energy to take ownership of the position.

You will ideally bring:





- At least two years of experience in QHSE, HSEQ, HSE, WHS or workplace safety
- Exposure to ISO management systems and audit preparation
- Experience with incident investigations and corrective actions
- Confidence maintaining safety documentation and compliance records
- Strong computer skills and the ability to work across different customer portals
- The confidence to communicate with operators, tradespeople, project managers and customers
- Strong time management and the ability to work without close supervision
- A willingness to travel to regional, interstate and remote project locations

Experience within equipment hire, construction, transport, utilities, telecommunications, heavy vehicles or mining services would be highly regarded.

Crane or elevated work platform experience would be useful, but it is not essential.

Qualifications such as a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, ISO Internal Auditor accreditation, ICAM training or return-to-work experience are desirable.

You will be working with a largely remote workforce of operators and truck drivers. You need to be able to build relationships, follow people up and keep safety requirements moving without becoming an unnecessary roadblock.
