FIFO Shutdown Trades – Boilermakers & Mechanical Fitters
Job Brief
We are seeking fifteen (15) Trade-Qualified Boilermakers and ten (10) Trade-Qualified Mechanical Fitters for an upcoming maintenance campaign across South Australia. These are highly lucrative, casual fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) positions requiring a commitment to specific shutdown blocks between August and December. Position Details
- ? Location: South Australia (FIFO from major SA hubs / Local state applicants only)
- ? Pay Rate: $60.00 – $65.00 per hour
- ? Total Vacancies: 25 positions (15x Boilermakers | 10x Mechanical Fitters)
- ? Visa Sponsorship: Not available (Must have full local working rights; no offshore applicants)
- ? Campaign Schedule (Must commit to all blocks):
- August: 2 days (Starts August 4 & 5)
- September: 4 days
- October: 22 days (Major campaign block)
- December: 4 days
Core Responsibilities By Trade For Boilermakers:
- Fabrication & Repair: Perform high-quality welding, heavy fabrication, cutting, grinding, and fitting tasks under tight shutdown deadlines.
- Structural Maintenance: Complete structural steel repairs, structural modifications,
and component installations safely.
- Blueprints: Accurately read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical structural plans.
For Mechanical Fitters:
- Mechanical Overhauls: Perform heavy mechanical maintenance, asset repairs, and precision component overhauls during fixed-window shutdowns.
- Alignment & Installation: Install, precision-align, and replace heavy mechanical components (pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, valves).
- Fault Finding: Rapidly isolate mechanical faults, troubleshoot issues, and execute repairs to return machinery to production.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Australian Recognized Trade Certificate (Cert III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or Fabrication/Boilermaking).
- Proven, hands-on experience working in heavy industrial, mining, or resource sector FIFO shutdowns.
- Deep knowledge of heavy site safety procedures, risk assessments, and isolation/lockout protocols.
- Current relevant shutdown tickets (Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, and Construction White Card are highly regarded).
- Must be physically fit, able to pass a comprehensive pre-employment medical, and pass ongoing drug and alcohol screens.
