Role Overview

We are urgently seeking a highly skilled, multi-disciplined CNC Machinist / Leading Hand to join our modern, heavy-capability manufacturing facility. This unique hybrid role balances hands-on, high-precision machining with workshop leadership. You will be responsible for setting up and operating a diverse range of machinery while actively mentoring apprentices and managing daily production schedules.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties

1. Advanced Machining and Setups (On-the-Tools)

- Multi-Machine Operation: Program, set up, and operate CNC and Manual lathes, mills, and specialized CNC Horizontal Boring machines.

- Heavy Capability and Precision: Execute complex setups on medium-to-heavy components, maintaining strict close tolerances according to technical specifications.

- Tooling and Offsets: Independently manage machine offsets, select optimal tooling, and interpret advanced blueprints or technical engineering drawings.

- Quality and Verification:



Conduct practical technical trade assessments and quality control checks using precision measuring instruments.

2. Workshop Leadership and Administration (Leading Hand)

- Team Mentorship: Supervise, train, and mentor junior machinists and trade apprentices on the workshop floor.

- Production Scheduling: Collaborate closely with the Department Manager to handle job scheduling, workflow optimization, and resource allocation.

- Compliance and Safety: Enforce strict Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards and Basic Quality Assurance (QA) protocols.

- Stakeholder Communication: Liaise professionally with suppliers and internal customers regarding job timelines and technical requirements.

Candidate Requirements

- Trade Qualification: Proven qualified experience as a qualified Machinist, Fitter, or Turner.

- Machining Breadth: Strong background in standard CNC milling/turning, with distinct experience or a strong willingness to work on heavy-capacity manual machines and horizontal borers.

- Leadership Track Record: Demonstrated local or global experience in workshop leadership, job scheduling, or supervisory duties.

- Technical Evidence: Readiness to provide clear video evidence of machining capabilities or complete a practical workshop assessment.
