About the Team

You will join a high-performing and collaborative team of Assistant Directors who lead, enable and motivate staff to administer, prepare for and deliver electoral events.

The Victorian (VIC) State and Divisional offices take a professional and dynamic approach to achieve high-quality, internationally recognised standards for electoral event delivery. Our geographically dispersed network works collaboratively to support one another and achieve large-scale outcomes within a complex operating environment.

Reporting to the State Directors, you will be an active member of the broader VIC leadership team, modelling positive behaviours and contributing to organisational culture, business planning and delivery outcomes. The team is collaborative, respectful and inclusive, and works to empower others by building enduring trust and capability.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting prospect to join the AEC and contribute to work that has a direct impact on Australia's democratic processes.

We are looking for capable leaders who can manage electoral event planning, delivery and evaluation in VIC. There are ongoing and non-ongoing full-time opportunities. Non-ongoing opportunities are for a minimum period of six months.



Vacancies exist within our Operations team, leading a portfolio of divisional officers, and within the State Office, leading a team responsible for delivering statewide projects.

Multiple opportunities are based in Melbourne CBD. Out-posting arrangements may be considered in regional locations across Victoria where the AEC has a divisional office.

You will contribute to developing team objectives for short-term priorities and longer-term strategic initiatives, including setting work priorities, maintaining team cohesion and ensuring the quality of outputs.

We are looking for people who communicate effectively, build productive stakeholder relationships and deliver quality outcomes within tight timeframes. You will demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, analytical thinking and the ability to contribute to continuous improvement.

During electoral events, you will need to respond effectively to high workloads and changing priorities, demonstrating resilience, sound judgement and professionalism.

To excel you’ll have:

- We are seeking motivated and capable professionals who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role, including:
- Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, including providing clear direction, delegating work, coaching staff and fostering a high-performing team culture.




- Experience in applying critical analysis and evidence-based decision-making to identify risks, dependencies and emerging issues, and implement practical solutions that achieve organisational outcomes.
- Proven capacity to lead teams through change and competing priorities, maintaining staff wellbeing and supporting the delivery of outcomes in dynamic environments.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes and build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across geographically dispersed locations.
- Experience in applying project management methodologies and leading the delivery of large-scale events, programs or projects within legislative and budget requirements, while effectively managing competing priorities.
- Experience working in regulated environments, including the ability to quickly acquire and apply knowledge of legislative frameworks, electoral processes, parliamentary systems and Commonwealth governance requirements.
- Ability to work independently, reflect on performance and seek feedback to support ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and the delivery of nationally consistent approaches to organisational outcomes.
