Employment Prospect The Attorney-General's Department is seeking to fill APS Level 5 and APS Level 6 vacancies for case officer roles across multiple branches within the Integrity and Security Group (ISG) and Justice and Communities Group (JSG). This recruitment process will be used to establish a merit pool of talent to fill current and future case officer vacancies across the department.

Case officers are responsible for managing individual cases under legislation, schemes, and international conventions administered by the department. This work is sensitive, time-critical and high-impact, suiting people who want to make a difference and contribute to community safety.

International Cooperation Unit within ISG manages cases on:

- international crime cooperation, working with law enforcement agencies and foreign partners on extradition, mutual assistance, international transfer of prisoners, litigation and facilitating the sharing of electronic information critical to countering serious crime.
- criminal justice and national security matters, including supporting parole decisions for federal offenders, and protecting information where disclosure in court proceedings may prejudice Australia's national security.
- international family law matters, including relating to international parental child abduction and child protection, and ensuring compliance with international conventions.

These roles would suit individuals with experience and/or qualifications in law, the criminal justice system, and international relations.

Transparency Frameworks Branch within ISG manages cases on the application of the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act 2018 (FITS Act), including providing strategic advice to the Secretary on the exercise enforcement powers, outreach to a diverse range of public and government stakeholders, and administration of the public register.



This would suit individuals with experience and/or qualifications in law, regulatory functions, international relations and languages other than English.

Legal Assistance Branch within JCG manages cases on legal financial assistance associated with the department's administration of Commonwealth legal financial assistance schemes, including the scheme for overseas criminal matters involving the death penalty, the overseas child abduction scheme and the Afghanistan Inquiry Legal Assistance Scheme.

- have excellent attention to detail, and be willing to learn and adapt to changing priorities
- build positive and productive working relationships with counterparts in other agencies
- have well-developed judgement, including when engaging with public stakeholders
- be clear and concise in written and oral communications conveying complex issues
- assist to manage litigation or judicial review if required, including the drafting of court documents and instructing counsel
- demonstrate resilience when dealing with challenging subject matter, and assist in ensuring a safe and supportive working environment.





Staff may be eligible for community language allowance under the AGD Enterprise Agreement 2024, if required to use the language in the course of their work.

Some roles may involve analysing emotionally impactful and at times graphic material relating to violence, exploitation, and abuse. To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department applicants must be Australian citizens.

Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The successful applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.

Legal qualifications and/or professional experience in casework, investigations or regulatory roles are preferred. Some positions require formal legal qualifications. For those positions, applicants must hold a degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification, which, in the opinion of the Secretary, is appropriate to the duties of the office, or admission in Australia as a legal practitioner. A practising certificate is not required.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created from this process, and will be active for 18 months after the date of this gazettal.
