About the role

This role is responsible for leading OPC’s people strategy and team to ensure the organisation attracts, develops, engages and retains a high-performing workforce capable of delivering our legislative and strategic objectives. It provides advice to the Senior Management Team on all aspects of strategic and operational human resource management.

Position duties

- Lead the People Team, and the delivery of comprehensive, contemporary and compliant human resource management practices, ensuring OPC meets its obligations under relevant legislation and APS-wide employment policies and frameworks.
- Support the executive to manage key people matters, including wellbeing, safety, engagement, capability, attraction and retention, ensuring opportunities are leveraged and risks managed.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the suite of contemporary best practice operational policies and procedures that support service delivery and workforce strategy. Provide leadership to the People Team as its manager; and to the OPC in maintaining a positive, collaborative, productive workplace culture.
- Provide advice on employment legislation and industrial relations matters, including leading enterprise bargaining and consultation processes, and managing complex workplace relations and conduct matters.
- Maintain and implement strategic workforce planning initiatives, including inclusion and diversity strategies, leadership and general capability development, and provide workforce insights and analytics to support decision-making.





Key capabilities The ideal candidate will bring experience of leadership in human resources and a strategic focus, combined with an ability to successfully deliver agency wide programs. They will be an outstanding and contemporary team leader, in addition to being client focused, calm, flexible and resilient, bringing a solutions focus and service-orientation to their work.

Your capabilities will include planning, prioritisation and people management, along with influential communication and a proven ability to manage a range of urgent priorities and complex matters. You will have experience of effectively working with relevant legislation, policy and procedures, and an ability to find and deliver innovative solutions within the people management function.

To be suitable for this role, you will have:

1. demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of workplace strategies and provision of high level advice on human resources matters;
2. the ability to lead and nurture the People Team as a high-performing group;
3. demonstrated ability to identify issues and generate innovative and practical solutions;
4. excellent communication skills including the ability to influence and manage relationships with senior executives and a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
5.



excellent writing skills including the ability to produce policies and document procedures;
6. contemporary understanding of relevant legislation and policies in a public sector setting;
7. proven track record of delivering programs and initiatives, particularly in the areas for which the position is responsible.

To be eligible for the role, you must:
- be an Australian Citizen;
- be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) clearance to Negative Vetting 1 status.
