We are seeking a values-driven Microfinance Officer for SHAC’s no-interest loans program. This is an opportunity to use your financial expertise to make a practical difference in the lives of people experiencing financial hardship, housing stress and disadvantage.
Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, you will work collaboratively with the small microfinance team, SHAC staff and partner agencies to achieve high-quality, sustainable outcomes for clients.
About the role
In this role, you will:
- Receive and assess referrals for access to no-interest loans.
- Conduct client loan interviews and review loan applications accurately and promptly.
- Establish and monitor repayment plans, including managing defaults in accordance with program principles and requirements.
- Source goods to be acquired through loans where required.
- Refer clients to financial counsellors and other appropriate financial support services.
- Complete accurate data entry, loan administration, reporting and record keeping.
- Liaise with partner agencies to achieve positive client outcomes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and the delivery of high-quality, client-centred services.
- Represent SHAC professionally when working with clients, stakeholders, organisations and the wider community.
About you
You will bring:
- Relevant experience in accounts, banking, loans or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Sound judgement, problem-solving ability and a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritise, manage competing tasks and work under pressure.
- High computer literacy, including experience with databases, reporting systems and accurate data entry.
- A commitment to confidentiality, professional integrity and high-quality client service.
- An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their experiences of poverty and financial exclusion.
- Personal alignment with SHAC’s vision, purpose and values, including a strong commitment to social justice.
- Working with Children Clearance (Blue Card), or the ability to obtain one.
