About the opportunity
This position provides clinical and short-term case management support to clients of the Prison Mental Health Service (PMHS) to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes for clients of the service. This position liaises with all relevant clinical and non-clinical stakeholders within the correctional workplace and non-clinical support workers in the community to coordinate a holistic approach to recovery and wellbeing, with a particular focus on the transition phase surrounding release from custody. This role will also conduct initial forensic assessments of new referrals to PMHS.
This position works within the multi-disciplinary PMHS and across the integrated Community Forensic Mental Health Service. The position is required to work in both Townsville Men's and Townsville Women's Correctional Centres serviced by the Townsville PMHS team.
PLEASE NOTE - This is a Temporary full-time role, 21/09/2026 - 13/12/2026.
About the service
PMHS provides voluntary assessment, treatment and continuity of care for persons in correctional centers who have or may have a mental illness, including diversion of mentally unwell offenders from the criminal justice system as required. PMHS provides a Transition Care Coordination Program to support the transition of complex consumers to the community at the point of release from custody.
Role requirements
Occupational Therapy - must hold a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in Occupational Therapy. Registration as an Occupational Therapist through AHPRA is required.
Psychology - must possess a tertiary degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
from a recognised tertiary institution and have current registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA). Possession of a Masters or Doctoral degree in Forensic or Clinical Psychology from an accredited tertiary institution, or significant progress towards this, would be highly regarded.
Social Work - must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in Social Work as well as eligibility for full membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). While not mandatory, status as an AASW accredited Mental Health Social Worker is highly regarded.
Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
Drivers Licence - requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required.

Salary range: $3067.00-$4700.90 p.f. (NG6-1/HP3)
4 weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% loading
