- SCHADS Level 4: $92,000 FTE (based on 37.5 hours) plus 12% super plus 17.5 Annual Leave Loading

We’ve been connecting families for over 50 years, helping parents build supportive networks and giving children joyful early learning experiences. Now, we’re looking for a Community Development Officer to help strengthen, grow, and champion our impact across the South Sydney, Sydney Central, Northern Sydney or Central Coast region. This will initially be a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2027, part-time 30 hours a week.

Playgroup NSW is a not-for-profit organisation that helps connect families and children to people and services in the community to positively impact their quality of life. For over 50 years, Playgroup NSW has delivered and linked over 72,000 families to vital services such as parent support groups and playgroups to foster early childhood development, navigate the challenges of parenting and build strong, resilient communities.

With 850 playgroup sessions operating each week, and more than 28,000 sessions held annually, and support from over 700 dedicated volunteers, Playgroup NSW continues to make a significant difference in the lives of young children and their families across the state.

You will help build stronger, more connected communities by establishing and supporting inclusive, community led playgroups.



You’ll be the connector — building relationships, empowering volunteers, and ensuring every family feels welcome, supported, and able to thrive. Your work will help children learn through play, strengthen families, and nurture resilient, engaged communities.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Growth

Be the local face of Playgroup NSW—build strong relationships, grow awareness, expand reach, and support new playgroups, especially in vulnerable communities.

Playgroup Support

Empower volunteers with advice, training and resources to start and sustain successful playgroups.

Program Delivery

Deliver engaging, inclusive programs and events that support child development and continuous improvement.

Partnerships & Strategy

Build local partnerships, identify growth opportunities and support initiatives to increase participation.

Compliance & Safety

Reporting, WHS and child protection requirements.

ABOUT YOU

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

Essential Experience & Selection Criteria

- Degree/Diploma in a relevant field in Community Services, Social Sciences, Public Health, Volunteer Engagement and/or Early Childhood Education and Care
- Demonstrated experience and impact in community development and engagement, with a minimum two years in a similar role
- Strong communication and teamwork skills,



including building partnerships, supporting volunteers, resolving conflict and solving problems.
- Experience engaging stakeholders and building robust community relationships and networks.
- Understanding of community development and inclusion, with experience working with diverse communities and vulnerable groups.
- Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Well-developed administrative, systems and database management skills, in particular Microsoft 365, Teams and CRM programs.
- Ability and willingness to travel across a region of Sydney on a regular basis. Please specify which region you are located in: South Sydney, Northern Sydney, Sydney Central or Central Coast.

Desirable Experience & Criteria

- Experience working with Salesforce or similar CRM platform
- First Aid Certificate
- Experience in a community playgroup or volunteering capacity For you to be successful in the role, it is important that you have all the above requirements. SCHADS Award level 4.
