About the role
This APS 6, full-time ongoing opportunity is ideal for a qualified who is passionate about strengthening organisational capability through effective data practices. As a Data Governance Advisor, you will contribute to the delivery of the Agency’s data strategy by helping improve how data is managed, governed, and used across the organisation. Working with stakeholders across a range of business areas, you will provide advice and guidance to promote data quality, compliance, and informed decision-making, while supporting strategic initiatives and inter-governmental projects that enhance the Agency’s data capability.
Reporting to the Data Governance team, you will coordinate data maturity assessments, maintain and improve the Agency’s Data Asset Register, and develop communications and resources for a variety of audiences. You will work closely with Data Stewards and business stakeholders to embed sound data management practices, support key programs of work, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes coordinating team administration activities, including SharePoint management, document control, template development, and meeting coordination.
Skills and experience To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience in data governance, data management, or information management, with a sound understanding of the data lifecycle, governance frameworks, and contemporary industry best practice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to build productive partnerships, influence outcomes, and proactively resolve issues.
- Experience delivering data-related projects and initiatives in complex operating environments, supported by strong project management skills and sound judgement in managing sensitive information.
- Well-developed communication skills, with experience preparing clear advice, briefs, presentations, and guidance materials for a range of audiences, including senior stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret and implement policies, frameworks, and governance requirements, providing practical advice and guidance to support organisational objectives.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, with the ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and implement effective solutions that enhance business outcomes.
Eligibility
Australian citizenship is a mandatory eligibility requirement. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain both a national police clearance and a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance, with the capacity to attain a higher-level clearance if required by the Agency.
