The Role
We are seeking one EL 1 Enterprise Architect to support the architecture design and uplift of Defence’s evolving digital ecosystem. Located within the Enterprise Architecture Applications Directorate, this role is responsible for developing enterprise-level architectures related to Defence’s application landscape modernisation and transformation from current to target state technology products and solutions.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, engineers, project managers, and business stakeholders, to ensure end-to-end solutions that align with the organisation's goals and technical requirements. You will be key in standardising and rationalising architecture frameworks across Defence ICT solutions and platforms.
The role provides strategic technology and architectural direction spanning the entire application portfolio that improves reliability, durability and functionality of technology ecosystems, including supporting application migrations to Defence cloud platforms. The position requires the ability to provide authoritative advice and produce high-quality written artefacts, such as architecture blueprints, strategy papers, options analyses, and executive decision briefs with a high degree of independence.
The Enterprise Applications Architect position is located at APW, Reid ACT (preferred) or alternative state office will be considered based at Defence Plaza Melbourne (DPM).
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team The Architecture and Strategy Branch provides strategic, technology and architectural advice, guidance, guardrails and governance spanning the Defence Digital landscape supporting outcomes for Defence war-fighters, civilians, leadership, programs, projects and capability owners.
We understand, map and guide the evolution of Defence’s digital technology ecosystems and proactively and continuously seek to improve the digital experience for all ADF, APS employees and industry partners to meet the needs of the war-fighter while capitalising on best-in-class technologies and sovereign capabilities.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our successful candidate will need to have exceptional ability to communicate with a technical workforce, capability managers and project teams. You will exercise a considerable degree of independence, have proven leadership skills within a diverse and integrated workforce of ICT capability-focused professionals and will be accountable for the delivery of complex architecture outcomes.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated experience as an Enterprise Applications Architect within large-scale, complex ICT environments.
- Demonstrable experience developing enterprise-level architectures across application landscapes, cloud native services and DevSecOps solutions within cloud environments.
- Exceptional executive stakeholder engagement, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into transparent and actionable advice.
- Demonstrated experience producing enterprise architecture artefacts, architectural assessments including blueprints, technology roadmaps, architectural recommendations and strategic options analyses.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
