For over 40 years, Downes Wholesale Nursery has grown to become one of Australia’s largest commercial plant suppliers. Operating across 100 scenic acres at our Theresa Park headquarters, we supply top-tier landscapers, property developers, and local councils across NSW.

We are seeking a detail-minded, proactive Estimating Assistant to support our busy quoting and sales team. Whether you are looking for standard full-time hours or a school-hours schedule to balance family life, we are open to tailoring the role for the right person!

What the job looks like

Estimating is where a landscaper’s plant schedule turns into a quote. Working alongside our Estimator, you’ll read plant lists and plans, take off the quantities, check what we have and what’s coming on, price it up and get the quote back out — accurately, and fast enough to win the job.

Flexible Hours: We prefer full-time and are happy to offer school hours (e.g., 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

What you’ll be doing

- Price up plant schedules. Take off quantities from plans and plant lists and build the quote.
- Work in Excel all day. Build and maintain the pricing sheets that everything else runs on.
- Check before we promise. Confirm stock, sizes and timing with production and sales.
- Keep quotes moving. Follow up, revise, and keep the records straight so nothing goes cold.

What you’ll bring

- Excel — this one’s essential. Confident with formulas, lookups and filtering, and comfortable in a big spreadsheet without breaking it.
- Accuracy under time pressure. Quotes come in waves, and the detail still has to be right.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Previous experience in a nursery, landscaping company, garden centre, or a passion for plants/botany is a major plus!
- Clear, straightforward communication. You’ll be back and forth with sales, the yard and customers every day.

Hours

Full-time suits us best, but for the right person we’ll work around school hours. Tell us what you’re after, and we’ll have the conversation.

Pay: $56,000.00 – $66,000.00 per year
