The Role An APS 6 Intelligence Assessment Analyst contributes to Defence's decision advantage by delivering timely, accurate, and evidence-based analysis that supports strategic decision-making. Working within a highly secure environment, the role integrates intelligence, research and information from multiple sources to assess emerging risks, vulnerabilities, and issues that may affect Defence capability, resilience, and preparedness.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the successful applicant will apply intelligence tradecraft, critical thinking and professional judgement to complex and often ambiguous challenges. They will produce high-quality assessments, briefs, and advice for senior decision-makers while contributing to the development of an emerging analytical capability supporting Defence's future operating setting and capability delivery mission.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
This position sits within Defence Intelligence Group (DIG). The team supports Defence's mission outlined under the National Defence Strategy. You will join a blended multidisciplinary team of APS, ADF, and Contractor employees working on complex national security, capability, and strategic challenges.
The team combines expertise in intelligence, strategic assessment, preparedness, and capability assurance to provide decision support to Defence and its operations. We value intellectual curiosity, analytical rigour and collaboration, and encourage continuous learning and professional growth.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Intelligence analysis and assessment.
- Application of structured analytical techniques and intelligence tradecraft.
- Production of intelligence assessments, executive briefs, support products.
- Integration of classified and open-source information.
- Experience using or the ability to gain the knowledge to use intelligence, analytical, research or data platforms.
- A STEM background, or otherwise sufficient understanding of modern technology concepts.
- Experience or the ability to gain the knowledge using the Commonwealth Procurement Principles.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 2.
