EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Permanent Full Time THE POSITION:
The Head of Curatorial and Collections leads the curatorial and collections team in the development and delivery of a varied and cutting-edge artistic program, strategic development and care of the Museum’s collection, and contributes to the operations and growth of the Museum as a member of the Senior Management Team.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leading the Curatorial team, develop and deliver all aspects of a program of varied and innovative exhibitions and artistic projects both onsite and offsite, aiding the development of the museum’s programming goals.
- Oversee all aspects of the MAMA exhibitions and related program areas.
- In collaboration with the MAMA CEO and leading the Curatorial team, lead the strategic development of the MAMA collection, including all considerations of collection care to museum best practice standards.
- Contribute to a renewed strategic direction for MAMA that aligns with Council's broader objectives and long-term sustainability goals.
- Proactive identification of funding opportunities, partnerships, revenue initiatives, and innovative approaches to program delivery.
- Leading and supporting change initiatives that strengthen MAMA's relevance, impact, and resilience into the future.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including with donors, benefactors, and funding bodies, seeking to generate revenue for the museum.
- Maintain an up to date and holistic understanding of the museum’s objectives through a proactive engagement with museum activities and programs.
- Ensure integration and communication of artistic programming goals within the museum.
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Curator that are within the scope of the employee’s skill, competence and training.
- Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
- Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity’s Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity’s Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Based on 35 hours per week, working 35 hours across a 7-day spread, with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facility roster, with a RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines. Hours worked on weekends will attract the appropriate loadings.
- This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform,
however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
- This position involves working both indoor and outdoor, along with computer work. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the workday - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. Appropriate WHS standards will be applied for all manual handing activity. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
- This position requires evidence of a current Australian National Police Check.
- This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
- The position is located at the Murray Art Museum Albury with occasional/frequent visits to external sites/depots and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Tertiary qualifications in art history, theory, practice, curatorial studies, or related discipline
DESIREABLE CRITERIA:
- Class C (standard) Driver’s Licence
EXPERIENCE
- Extensive curatorial experience at collecting institution, not for profit sector or independent
SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Exceptional knowledge of contemporary artistic practices and debates

- Broad range stakeholder engagement, including working with artists, their representatives and supporters as well as donors, benefactors, and community groups
