Social Matters is seeking experienced Policy/Project Officers to join our contractor network, with immediate project work available.
This is a subcontractor position, engaged on a day-rate or project basis, depending on the scope of work. Contractors must have their own ABN and appropriate professional insurance.
Initial work will require on-site attendance in Melbourne, with hybrid and remote arrangements available for ongoing work.

Our contractors may be engaged across a range of projects, including:
- Policy and strategy development
- Research, analysis and briefing
- Organisational reviews and reform
- Project planning and delivery
- Reports, discussion papers and policy papers
- Board and executive meeting papers
- Workshop and meeting preparation
- Presentations and PowerPoint development
- Stakeholder engagement
- Meeting facilitation and minutes
- Project documentation and implementation support
We are particularly interested in people who are articulate, highly organised and excellent writers and thinkers, with the ability to take complex information and turn it into clear, concise and useful material.
Solid PowerPoint and visual presentation skills are highly valued.
-- Experience and capabilities --
We are looking for contractors with experience in one or more of the following:
- Strong analytical and research skills, including the ability to interpret complex information and identify implications.
- Excellent written communication and the ability to produce high-quality reports, briefs, strategies, papers and presentations.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including Aboriginal organisations, Traditional Owner organisations, communities, government agencies and partner organisations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to contribute confidently to meetings, workshops and briefings.
- Experience in Victorian Government, Aboriginal affairs, not-for-profit, consulting or related environments.
- An understanding of Aboriginal affairs, community-led approaches and culturally informed policy practice, or a strong willingness to develop this capability.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, social sciences, law, Aboriginal studies or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
