Description

About the role

This is an influential role for someone with deep knowledge of home and community aged care who can translate complex policy, regulatory and operational issues into practical advice, strong advocacy positions and meaningful outcomes for members and the broader sector.

Working across Ageing Australia and with members, government, regulators and industry stakeholders, you will help shape policy and advocacy priorities, identify emerging issues and opportunities, and strengthen sector capability as providers navigate an evolving operating environment.

Key responsibilities In this role, you will:

- Strategic Leadership: Provide high-level strategic advice and thought leadership on home and community aged care policy, reform and operational challenges, while identifying emerging trends, risks and opportunities that inform organisational and sector priorities.

- Policy and Advocacy: Represent Ageing Australia in consultations, working groups and advisory forums,



and develop high-quality submissions, briefings and policy advice that draw on evidence, member insights and sector intelligence to influence policy outcomes.

- Sector Engagement: Build trusted relationships with members, providers, government, regulators and key stakeholders, facilitating forums and consultations to understand sector issues and inform advocacy priorities.

- Thought Leadership and Capability Building: Be a key subject matter expert on home and community care, sharing expertise through publications, presentations, practical guidance and knowledge-building initiatives for members and internal teams.

- Project Leadership: Lead strategic projects and cross-organisational initiatives, collaborating across policy, advocacy, member services, sector engagement and communications to deliver high-quality outcomes.

- Continuous Improvement: Monitor regulatory changes and evolving models of care, translating developments into relevant guidance, member support and opportunities to strengthen organisational and sector capability.

About you

You will bring extensive knowledge and experience in home and/or community aged care, with the ability to combine strategic thinking, policy expertise and strong stakeholder engagement.

To be successful, you will also bring:

Essential

- Relevant graduate qualifications, including. nursing, allied health, health or social policy, or clinical governance.

- Extensive experience in home and / or community aged care, including policy, programs, standards, operations, and/or regulation.

- Demonstrated ability to influence policy and contribute to sector reform.





- Strong understanding of the aged care regulatory setting and reform agenda, including the Aged Care Act 2024, Commonwealth Home Support Program and Support at Home Program (and other relevant programs).

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including policy writing and in published materials.

- Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.

- Appreciation of the political system and related policy processes.

- Ability to operate at a strategic level while managing competing priorities.

- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft suite, including Word, Excel, Sharepoint and Teams, and other project and stakeholder management tools.

Desirable

- Experience working in a peak body, government, or advisory role.

- Postgraduate qualifications in health, public policy, or a related field.
