The Opportunity

Behind one of Australia's largest digital marketplace businesses sits a squad of engineers keeping the lights on for a critical service.

Every login. Every token. Every API call runs through this platform, used by millions of people every day.

This isn't a role only for career identity specialists. If you're a strong backend engineer who's had to solve real authentication and security problems while building integrations, this is worth a serious look.

Equally, if you've spent years deep in identity platforms and want consumer scale, the fit is just as strong. What matters more than your job title is whether you can reason clearly through a system, not just recognise the patterns you've seen before.

The Team

- You'll join the Public Identity Platform squad, owning every authenticated interaction across the business: the identity platform itself, authentication and authorisation, plus the developer portal and public API gateway external businesses use to access the platform's APIs.
- Their roadmap over the next two years is genuinely ambitious: evolving the identity platform at scale while reshaping how external businesses consume the platform's APIs.

The Role

- A senior IC position on a lean squad of four engineers, working alongside a platform expert with 10+ years on these systems and a newly appointed Team Lead. Real ownership from day one.
- Senior engineers here take medium-sized initiatives from design through to production themselves. High accountability,



no hand-holding.
- The platform is in good shape. This isn't a rescue mission, the tech is modern and well maintained. The challenge is the roadmap ahead, not the mess left behind.
- Mostly backend (80-90%), with occasional work on login experiences.
- Mentor junior engineers informally. No direct reports.

The Stack

- C# / .NET 8, ASP.NET Core, AWS, Duende IdentityServer, OAuth2 / OpenID Connect, SNS/SQS, EventBridge, DynamoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL/MySQL, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code.

What You'll Bring

- Solid backend engineering in C# / .NET, building distributed services at scale
- Real, hands-on experience with authentication and authorisation, whether that's owning an identity platform outright, or implementing OAuth2, OpenID Connect, token handling or secure integrations as part of building other systems
- A track record of owning solutions end to end, and the ability to walk someone through your own architecture clearly, not just describe what it does
- Comfort reasoning through unfamiliar code, not just spotting textbook issues
- Production time with Duende IdentityServer or IdentityServer4
- Identity provider migrations, or fine-grained authorisation systems (SpiceDB, OpenFGA or similar)
- Experience with API gateways: external developer onboarding, usage metering, credential management
- AWS specifically, though strong cloud fundamentals on any major public platform will transfer well
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field
