Registered Nurse - Very Special Kids Hospice
Make a Difference in Every Shift
At Very Special Kids, nursing is more than a job. It is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with children and families, provide exceptional care during some of life's most challenging moments, and be part of a team that truly makes a difference.
We are currently seeking passionate and experienced Registered Nurses to join our hospice team in full-time and part-time positions at Very Special Kids House in Malvern.
This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy caring for children and young people with complex medical needs and who are looking for a career that offers purpose, connection, skilled growth, and the opportunity to deliver truly holistic care.
About the Role
As a Registered Nurse at Very Special Kids, you will provide specialist nursing care to children and young people with life-limiting conditions in Victoria's only children's hospice.
No two days are the same. You may be supporting a child with complex neurological, respiratory, genetic, or metabolic conditions, providing respite care that enables families to recharge, managing complex symptoms, or supporting a family through end-of-life care and bereavement.
Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will:
- Deliver high-quality, family-centred nursing care to children and young people with complex medical needs.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care.
- Develop meaningful relationships with children and families.
- Provide symptom management and palliative care alongside specialist clinicians.
- Work collaboratively with allied health, medical, psychosocial, and volunteer teams.
- Support emergency and planned respite admissions.
- Contribute to a culture of excellence, compassion,
reflection and continuous learning.
This is a unique chance to practice nursing in a setting where relationship-based care, quality of life, and family-centred practice are at the heart of everything we do.
Who We're Looking For
We are particularly interested in hearing from nurses with experience in:
- Paediatric nursing
- Disability nursing
- Community nursing
- Palliative care
- Intensive care
- Emergency nursing
- Rehabilitation
- Complex care or chronic disease management
While paediatric experience is highly regarded, it is not essential. If you are a Registered Nurse with a strong clinical foundation, experience managing complex care needs, and a genuine passion for supporting children and families, we would love to hear from you.
You will bring
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- At least 2 years post-graduate nursing experience
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- A commitment to family-centred and person-centred care
- A compassionate and collaborative approach to nursing practice
