About the business

Khalij Gold and Diamonds Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Retail Buyer to manage the company’s purchasing and merchandise planning across its fine jewellery, diamonds, precious metals, bullion, gemstones and luxury watch categories.

The role will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing products and materials from international suppliers, developing merchandise plans, analysing market and sales information, negotiating supply arrangements, and supporting the company’s showroom and expanding online retail operations.

Key responsibilities

- Monitor sales data, stock levels, sell-through, stock turnover, aged inventory and market conditions to forecast demand and determine the appropriate product types, quantities, quality, price points and timing of purchases.
- Research jewellery, precious metals, diamonds, gemstones, watches and bullion markets, including supplier offerings and changing customer and industry trends, to support purchasing and product range decisions.
- Source and select finished jewellery, loose diamonds, gold, bullion, gemstones, watches and jewellery components from international suppliers, and negotiate cost prices, quantities, delivery schedules, payment terms, product specifications and other trading arrangements with suppliers and offshore manufacturers.
- Develop and maintain seasonal merchandise buying plans and stock investment budgets, taking into account key trading periods, customer demand, available cash flow and the company’s showroom and online sales strategy.




- Work with management on longer-term product planning and range development.
- Develop and implement pricing, promotional and visual display strategies for jewellery and bullion ranges.
- Review landed costs, gold and foreign exchange movements and target margins when setting or adjusting prices, and work with management and the sales team on featured products, promotional timing, product presentation and clearance activities.
- Analyse product and category performance and determine appropriate reordering, markdown, clearance or discontinuation strategies for excess or slow-moving stock while maintaining target gross profit margins.
- Support stock allocation and product availability across the showroom and online channel.
- Monitor purchasing expenditure, stock investment, revenue and gross profit performance, including the impact of gold price movements on purchasing and production costs, and provide regular buying and merchandise performance reports to management.

Skills and experience

- Qualification in business, analytics, procurement or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of buying experience in fine jewellery, precious metals or a comparable high-value product category.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating with international suppliers, with offshore contract manufacturing experience highly regarded.
- Strong analytical skills across sales, inventory, purchasing and commodity price data.
- Sound product knowledge of gold, diamonds and gemstones, including the ability to assess incoming goods.
- Robust commercial judgement and the ability to balance product demand, stock investment, pricing and gross profit objectives.

Pay: $87,000.00 per year
