Cloud Engineer / Cloud Architect – Microsoft Azure
Federal Government Agency | Canberra, ACT or Remote | 12-month contract + 2 × 12-month extensions | EL1 equivalent | Baseline clearance (or ability to obtain)
About the opportunity
Kora Advisory is looking for experienced Cloud Engineers and Cloud Architects to join the CIO area of a federal government agency. You'll help deliver a range of ICT projects that support the agency and the businesses it serves.
You'll design and guide enterprise cloud architecture on Microsoft Azure and M365, work with multidisciplinary Agile teams, and make sure solutions are secure, reusable and aligned with whole-of-government standards. The role suits a senior cloud skilled with at least 5 years' experience who is comfortable leading and influencing others.
Key details
- Start date: Monday 19 October 2026 (indicative)
- Contract: 12 months initially, with two possible 12-month extensions
- Level: Senior, EL1 equivalent
- Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
- Location: Canberra preferred. Remote work may be considered case by case, depending on business needs.
What you'll do
- Develop enterprise cloud platform architectures for Microsoft Azure and M365
- Produce high-level solution architectures for cloud-based systems, and detailed architecture guidance for cloud engineers
- Analyse the impact of stakeholder requirements and give technical guidance on design and build
- Keep solutions aligned with whole-of-government standards, target architectures and the DTA's Digital Service Standard
- Work with business owners, scrum masters, BAs, developers, enterprise architects,
testers and user experience teams
- Provide expertise in platform automation, including testing, continuous integration and deployment
- Promote enterprise architecture principles: reuse before buy or build, configure over customise, and open data and access over siloed functionality
- Act as a strategic technical leader and influencer
What you'll bring (essential)
- Cloud experience: Demonstrated experience implementing cloud-based solutions with:
- Azure App Services, Functions, Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Service Bus and API Management
- Azure DevOps for code management, repositories, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD
- Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights
- Integration of cloud systems with third-party systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM
- Azure networking, security and identity, including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and RBAC
- Cultural fit: Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams and with technical and non-technical staff at all levels, and to collaborate with and mentor team members to keep the team working well together
- Agile: Experience delivering secure, reliable, user-friendly solutions in Agile multidisciplinary teams,
and the ability to change direction and scope pragmatically as new information comes to light
- Technical skills: 5+ years implementing and managing cloud systems, including working with cross-functional teams to develop and manage enterprise and application-level Azure architectures, and providing impact analysis and technical guidance in line with whole-of-government standards
Nice to have (desirable)
- A track record of technical leadership across project and operational work
- Demonstrated understanding of cloud-based technologies and architectures
- Experience in application and integration architecture, or infrastructure platform architecture
- At least 3 years designing and documenting architectures for large, complex enterprise systems. AWS and/or GCP experience is a bonus.
Security clearance
You must be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance. This generally requires Australian citizenship. If you already hold a clearance, please tell us.
