Senior Network Operations & Services Officer

Grade: 9/10

Salary range: $133,348-146,945 + superannuation and leave loading

Duration: permanent full time role, ongoing

Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement 2 days a week in Sydney, McKell. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies

Play a key role in supporting the mission-critical communications network that keeps emergency responders connected when it matters most.

We are looking for a proactive and technically capable telecommunications professional who will initially assist a project upgrading and replacing communications assets in the network.

The role will also require managing complex network operations, oversee service providers, and drive continuous improvement across a mission-critical communications environment.

The successful candidate will be a strong relationship builder with excellent problem-solving skills, able to balance operational demands, manage risk, and ensure the reliable delivery of services that emergency responders depend on 24/7.

About the team

This role sits within the Technology Operations team in the NSW Telco Authority.

Technology Operations ensures network reliability and availability for our frontline first responders, especially in times of severe weather events and natural disasters.

We do this by

- Maintaining a strong focus on governance and performance of the PSN and paging network

- Collaborating with customers and agencies to meet their operational requirements

- Working closely with internal teams to ensure high quality of new sites or new elements added to the networks

- 24/7 monitoring of network availability at the Network Operations Control Centre (NOCC)

Your responsibilities will include

- Initially providing technical support on a project replacing aged assets in the network.

- Oversee the operation, support and maintenance of the Public Safety Network (PSN) to ensure reliable and effective telecommunications services

- Monitor and manage third-party service providers to ensure contractual obligations, service levels and performance standards are consistently achieved

- Proactively identify risks, coordinate incident responses and implement mitigation strategies to maintain network resilience and availability.

- Contribute to the development and improvement of operational processes, systems and practices to enhance network performance and service outcomes.





- Maintain the integrity of network asset data, oversee spare parts management, and provide reporting and insights to support informed decision-making.

To be successful in this role you will

- Hold Essential Security Clearance: You will be able to obtain and retain minimum Baseline Security clearance within six months to work with sensitive government and critical communications information

- Have or be willing to obtain required certifications including ITIL v4 and Australasian Interagency Incident Management System (AIIMS)

- Be willing to support the 24/7 nature of operations including participating in a 7day on call duty roster and performing reasonable directed overtime as part of an incident or emergency response including duties other than core role but within capabilities and training.

- Have strong telecommunications and network operations experience with the ability to manage complex, mission-critical services and infrastructure

- Be a proactive problem solver who can identify risks early, respond effectively to incidents, and maintain service continuity in high-pressure situations

- Build trusted relationships with customers, stakeholders and service providers, influencing outcomes and driving accountability to achieve operational objectives
