Laundy Hotels is one of Australia's largest privately owned hospitality groups, operating more than 40 venues across NSW & QLD and employing over 2,000 team members.

Based in our Lane Cove Head Office and reporting to the Head of People & Culture, we are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Leader to lead and develop a small team of payroll professionals responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for more than 2,000 employees. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for payroll compliance, award interpretation, complex payroll matters, process improvement and providing trusted payroll advice across the business.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support the payroll team in processing payroll for 2,000 + employees on a weekly basis, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Allocate workloads across the payroll team and monitor progress to ensure all payroll deadlines are consistently met.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and support to payroll officers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Act as the first point of escalation for complex payroll issues and provide guidance to the team on appropriate resolutions.
- Review payroll processes and outputs to ensure accuracy, compliance and adherence to relevant awards, agreements and legislation.
- Interpret and provide guidance on relevant industry awards, particularly within the Hospitality Industry, and communicate legislative changes to the team.
- Support payroll officers with complex payroll queries and ensure employee enquiries are responded to accurately and within appropriate timeframes.
- Work closely with the Systems Manager to support payroll system configuration, testing, system improvements and implementation of process changes.
- Oversee key payroll compliance activities, including superannuation, leave entitlements, termination payments, workers' compensation and employment-related tax obligations.

- Assist with the preparation and lodgement of group payroll tax, including the annual reconciliation.
- Support the completion of end-of-year STP finalisation and other year-end payroll requirements.
- Complete and review manual long service leave calculations and other complex payroll calculations as required.




- Prepare and provide accurate weekly and monthly payroll reports to key stakeholders.
- Coordinate and oversee month-end and year-end payroll activities, ensuring all deadlines are achieved.
- Work collaboratively with HR, Finance and other key stakeholders to resolve payroll matters and provide payroll-related advice.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and make recommendations to improve payroll efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and ensure employee payroll information is handled appropriately at all times.
- Assist with the training and onboarding of new payroll team members and contribute to the ongoing development of the team.

About You

- 3+ years'

experience in payroll, with experience in a team leadership or senior payroll capacity.

- Strong end-to-end payroll processing experience, preferably within a high-volume payroll environment.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring or supporting a team of payroll professionals.
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, awards and compliance requirements.
- Experience interpreting awards, with Hospitality Industry experience highly regarded.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and strict payroll deadlines.
- Confident communicator who is approachable and able to provide clear guidance and support to team members.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to confidently manage payroll escalations.
- Customer-service focused, with a commitment to providing timely and skilled support to employees and stakeholders.
- Strong technical payroll skills and confidence working across payroll systems and technology.




- Experience with Wage Easy and Deputy highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of privacy, confidentiality and the importance of protecting sensitive employee information.
- A proactive approach to identifying process improvements and supporting positive change within the payroll function.
- Enthusiastic, adaptable and eager to learn, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team workplace.
