About the team The Office of the Building Commissioner provides strategic and operational support to help Building Commission NSW deliver its regulatory priorities. Our team works across the organisation to strengthen procurement, sourcing, governance and compliance practices.
You will join a supportive and cooperative team that values sound judgement, practical solutions and strong partnerships. In this role, you will help improve procurement capability and outcomes across the organisation, while contributing to work that supports a safer and more trustworthy building and construction industry.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and lead sourcing activities that establish fit-for-purpose supply arrangements and deliver value for the organisation.
- Partner with teams across BCNSW to provide practical procurement advice, strengthen capability and improve procurement practices and outcomes.
- Work closely with the Department of Customer Service Procurement Business Partner to ensure BCNSW complies with current and emerging procurement policies, frameworks and obligations.
- Identify, assess and mitigate procurement risks while enabling timely, commercially sound decisions and maximising opportunities for the organisation.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of procurement processes, decisions and contractual arrangements to support transparency, probity and audit requirements.
Key challenges
- Balance competing priorities and respond effectively to changing business needs, emerging issues and urgent procurement requests.
- Influence stakeholders to plan procurement activity and manage demand, including where effective solutions require changes to broader business practices.
- Maintain current knowledge of procurement legislation, policy, business needs and market conditions to provide authoritative, practical and timely advice.
- Exercise sound judgement about when to provide detailed, hands-on support and when to take a lighter-touch advisory approach to manage capacity and focus effort where it adds the greatest value.
- Meet compliance, probity and value-for-money requirements while supporting the operational needs of a fast-paced regulatory organisation.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong procurement expertise, including experience planning and delivering sourcing activities and providing practical advice in a complex organisation; NSW Government procurement experience is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing end-to-end tender processes, including preparing documentation, coordinating evaluations and supporting contract award.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex requirements clearly and tailor advice to different audiences and formats.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships, influence stakeholders and work collaboratively to achieve practical procurement outcomes.
- Sound judgement, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the initiative and attention to detail needed to identify risks and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Strong time management and organisational skills, with a proven ability to prioritise competing demands, adapt to changing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
- A flexible and adaptable approach, with a willingness to adjust priorities, methods and support as business needs evolve.

Salary Grade 0910, with the base salary for this role starting at 133,348 base plus superannuation
