About the Agency The Australian Digital Health Agency is transforming how Australians experience healthcare by enabling people and providers to access the information they need, securely, quickly and in one place. Through national digital services such as My Health Record, Electronic Prescriptions and the 1800Medicare App, we are building a connected health system that gives Australians greater control over their health.

The Software Engineer (API Java Developer) EL1 is responsible for designing, developing and supporting secure, scalable API and system integration solutions that enable the exchange of information across national digital health systems. The role provides technical leadership in API development, integration, interoperability, security and DevOps practices while working collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver reliable, cloud-enabled digital services.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop and support secure, scalable RESTful APIs and integration services using modern Java technologies.
- Deliver interoperable solutions that support secure data exchange through industry standards and integration best practices.
- Implement API security controls, including authentication, authorisation, auditing and privacy safeguards.
- Apply contemporary DevOps practices, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation, to ensure reliable software delivery.

Key Criteria

- Demonstrated experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise-grade REST APIs and integration solutions using Java.
- Strong knowledge of API security principles, including OAuth, authentication, authorisation and secure software development practices.
- Experience developing interoperable solutions and applying integration, data validation and information exchange standards.
- Proven capability working in cloud and DevOps environments, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and containerised deployments,



supported by strong problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Mandatory Skills and experience: Java, REST API, HL7 FHIR Experience, Healthcare Application experience, End to end testing (REST, Performance, Unit), OAuth, Containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, Privacy, audit, and logging, DevOps/GitOps processes
- Desirable skills and experience: Spring/ Springboot / Quarkus, Database, Test automation (Karate, Gherkin, Cucumber, Selenium), Kubernetes, Integration skills (data mapping), Terminology servers

Eligibility

Australian citizenship is mandatory. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a national police clearance and the required security clearance, with the ability to attain a higher-level clearance if needed.

Salary: $124,583 - $142,089 plus 15.4% superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
