STAFF SOFTWARE ENGINEER

We are looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership across the design and delivery of modern, secure and scalable software platforms.

This role is suited to an engineer with deep backend and distributed-systems expertise who can work across the broader technology stack and has practical experience using AI and GenAI to build better software and improve engineering productivity.

You will operate across architecture and delivery - solving complex engineering problems, establishing reusable patterns, mentoring engineers and helping teams deliver high-quality software at greater speed.

CORE STACK

.NET / C# • Python • Next.js / TypeScript • Cloud-native services • APIs • Event-driven architecture • DevSecOps . AWS

Deep expertise in every technology is not expected. We are looking for strong depth in backend and platform engineering, supported by broader capability across AI and modern web technologies.

What you'll do

- Provide Staff-level technical leadership across architecture, engineering and delivery while remaining hands-on with the codebase.
- Design and build secure, scalable and resilient services using .NET / C#, APIs and modern distributed-system patterns.
- Lead the design of cloud-native, API-first and event-driven architectures that can evolve as business and customer needs change.
- Use Python to build and integrate AI-enabled services, automation and supporting platform capabilities.
- Integrate GenAI and LLM capabilities into production applications where they create meaningful customer,

colleague or engineering value.

- Establish clear boundaries between AI capabilities and deterministic enterprise services so solutions remain reliable, secure and maintainable.
- Contribute to and provide technical direction for modern customer and colleague experiences using Next.js /

TypeScript.

- Drive engineering standards across software design, testing, observability, security, reliability, performance and

DevSecOps.

- Apply AI-assisted software engineering practices across the SDLC, including development, testing, code review,

documentation and engineering automation.

- Identify opportunities to simplify architecture, reduce technical debt and create reusable engineering capabilities.
- Mentor senior engineers, influence technical decisions across teams and raise engineering capability across the broader organisation.
- Work with product, architecture, security, data and engineering teams to turn ambiguous problems into pragmatic technical solutions.

What we're looking for

- Strong experience operating at Staff, Principal or equivalent senior engineering level in complex technology environments.
- Deep hands-on experience with .NET / C# and backend software engineering.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, integration patterns and event-driven architecture.
- Experience designing and operating cloud-native, highly available production systems.

Staff Software Engineer | 1

- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals including security, observability, automated testing, resilience,

performance and DevSecOps.

- Practical experience with Python, particularly for automation, data processing, AI-enabled services or integration.
- Experience integrating GenAI, LLM or AI capabilities into production software is highly desirable.
- Understanding of AI engineering concepts such as retrieval, tool integration, evaluation, observability and guardrails is advantageous; deep AI specialisation is not required.
- Working knowledge of Next.js / TypeScript or comparable contemporary frontend technologies; deep frontend specialisation is not required.
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools and practices to improve developer productivity, quality or delivery velocity.
- Demonstrated ability to influence architecture and engineering standards across multiple teams.
- Strong communication and technical leadership skills, with the ability to mentor engineers and communicate complex technical decisions clearly.
- Experience in banking, financial services or another regulated, high-availability environment would be advantageous.

- When you apply, you voluntarily consent to the disclosure, collection and use of your personal data for employment/recruitment and related purposes in accordance with the Tech Aalto Privacy Policy, a copy of which is published at Tech Aalto’s website (https://www.techaalto.com/privacy/)

Confidentiality is assured, and only shortlisted candidates will be notified for interviews.
