This small agency drives world leading research partnership between Australian scientists and counterparts in developing countries, currently funding more than 150 + research projects across over 30 countries throughout the Indo-Pacific.
The Opportunity
You’ll will lead and coordinate priority facilities, property and security work for this small government agency.
The role will address immediate operational, compliance and assurance needs across facilities management, defects resolution, post-occupancy review, physical and personnel security, travel security and business continuity planning.
The position offers skilled autonomy, scope for leadership, and the ability to shape outcomes in both facilities management and security across the organisation.
The Role
As the EL1 Facilities and Security Manager, you will oversee a dual portfolio responsible for both the operational delivery and strategic direction of the department’s property and security services.
You will be:
- Coordinating the identification, management and rectification of office defects and facilities issues, through whole-of-government property management provider arrangements where required
- Assessing the agencies physical, personnel and travel security arrangements, undertake risk assessments, and identify priority risk treatments to strengthen compliance and assurance under the PSPF.
- Supporting whole-of-government property reporting and planning obligations, including the Australian Government Property Register, emissions accounting and development of an Emissions Reduction Plan and Business Continuity Plan
- Leading a 12-month post-occupancy review of office accommodation and developing practical options to improve workspace functionality, layout and use
- Improving visitor management, access controls, security incident escalation pathways and decision records for security,
travel and overseas risk events
- Developing and implementing clear systems, processes and policies, and assurance mechanisms for the ongoing management of facilities, physical security, personnel security, overseas security and business continuity arrangements
- Providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on facilities, property, security and business continuity matters, including emerging risks, compliance obligations and improvement opportunities
The Ideal Person
The successful candidate will bring experience in a similar role within the Commonwealth, or equivalent and excellent knowledge of government accommodation guidelines and the Whole-of-Government Property Servies Provider model.
In addition, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in managing corporate property services and/or physical security operations within a government or large-scale organisation
- A solid understanding of the PSPF, facility security requirements, and relevant property and WHS legislation
- Proven capability to manage vendors, deliver complex services, and oversee performance under contractual arrangements
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders
Additionally, it would be beneficial if you have:
- Qualifications in property, facilities management, security, risk management or a related discipline are highly desirable
- A minimum of a Baseline security clearance
Salary / Rate
- $90/hr – $100/hr + Super
- Initial 6-month labour hire contract, with 12-month extension option
- Canberra-based role
