Teaching Service Position Information Model Farms High School is a large co-educational, comprehensive high school in northwestern Sydney, with an enrolment of 958 students, including 1% Aboriginal students and 15% who use English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D). The school has an established record of excellence in academic and sporting pursuits as well as diverse programs in the area of creative and performing arts.
The school includes a support unit of five classes, with three Autism Spectrum Disorder classes, a Moderate Intellectual Disability class, and a Multicategory class. A second Multicategory class is being added in 2027. Model Farms High School enjoys a positive community profile based on its broad curriculum including Agriculture, effective wellbeing programs and wide range of extra-curricular activities.
The school is committed to continually improving effective classroom practice, with staff professional learning being a highly key driver. This learning is focused on literacy, numeracy, high potential and gifted education (HPGE) and differentiation, as these elements underpin student learning, engagement and achievement.
We are seeking a teacher to join our Support Unit teaching staff full-time to meet our staffing needs for our additional class in 2027.
Our support unit employs a rotational teaching model where educators teach various subjects to different classes, fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that is in line with a mainstream high school structure.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Autism and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively within the team, fostering a culture of support for our students that extends beyond individual classrooms.
- Highly-developed skills in behavioural management, including the implementation of positive behavioural support systems, with a focus on student safety and wellbeing.
- Willingness and capability to teach across Life Skills curriculum, including Life Skills Stage 4 Creative Arts (Music and Art).
Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
