Expression of Interest – ADC Item Writers
The Australian Dental Council (ADC) is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced dental and oral health professionals to join our Item Writer Panel.
This is an exciting prospect to contribute to the development of high-quality assessment items used in the ADC’s written and practical examinations for overseas trained dental practitioners seeking registration in Australia.
About the role
ADC Item Writers play an important role in maintaining the quality, validity and integrity of ADC examinations. Working collaboratively with fellow dental professionals, Item Writers contribute to the development and review of examination content that assesses candidates against the competencies required for safe and effective dental practice.
Depending on project requirements, Item Writers may contribute as:
- Authors
- Reviewers
- Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Mentors
Successful applicants will receive training and ongoing support from the ADC and will work alongside a network of experienced dental and assessment professionals.
Who we’re looking for
We are seeking dental professionals who:
- Hold, or have previously held, registration as a health practitioner with the relevant regulatory body.
- Have a minimum of five years’ clinical experience in dentistry or another profession relevant to dentistry.
- Demonstrate current knowledge and expertise in their field.
- Have experience in, or an understanding of, the assessment of dental practitioners and/or students.
- Have experience in, or knowledge of, assessment and examination design.
- Are not currently involved in preparation courses for ADC examinations.

What is involved?
As an ADC Item Writer, you will be expected to:
- Participate in item development and review activities both virtually and in-person.
- Complete required training and attend Item Writer workshops.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of examination materials.
- Declare any actual, perceived or potential conflicts of interest.
- Act in accordance with ADC values and the ADC Code of Conduct.
Participation in item writing activities will be remunerated in accordance with ADC Remuneration guidelines.
