Are you an experienced planner looking to work on projects that leave a lasting impact on a growing regional city? The Tamworth Region is experiencing significant economic growth, with more than $550 million in local building approvals recorded in 2025/26 alone. This figure does not include State Significant Developments, with more than $1 billion in additional investment currently in the pipeline across the region. To support this growth, we're seeking motivated Senior Development Assessment Planners to join our Major Projects Team and help shape the future of the Tamworth region.
This is an opportunity to work on some of the region's most complex and influential developments. You will assess major development applications, provide expert planning advice and work collaboratively with developers, government agencies and the community to deliver high-quality planning outcomes. As a senior member of the team, you will also mentor and support other planning professionals.
The Senior Development Assessment Planner – Major Projects is responsible for:
Contributing to the region's liveability by proactively managing land use and development to enhance the built and natural environment in line with Council's strategic vision, Blueprint 100. This role delivers highly professional and expert town planning services to applicants, customers, the development industry, stakeholders and the broader community.
You will:
- Provide specialist planning advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assess complex, high-value and strategically significant development applications.
- Work collaboratively with developers, government agencies, consultants and community representatives to achieve positive planning outcomes.
- Contribute to major projects that will help shape the future growth and prosperity of the Tamworth region.
- Mentor and support other planning professionals within the team.
- Drive planning outcomes that balance sustainable growth, community expectations and strategic objectives.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
NSW Drivers Licence
- Degree and Post Graduate Diploma or 4 year Degree in Planning or related discipline
- Strong knowledge of planning legislation and development controls
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to manage complex applications and competing priorities
- A collaborative approach and passion for delivering quality planning outcomes

Salary range: Grade 17 - $102,066.50 - $110,446.38 per annum plus 12% superannuation, market allowance and leaseback vehicle* for a 35 hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
* It should be noted that an employee salary contribution is required for this motor vehicle. Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
