This opportunity is with a Defence consultancy supporting a major Australian Defence capability program within the Australian Army. The team is responsible for enabling the safe, secure and effective adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies through governance, assurance, systems engineering and Test, Evaluation, Verification and Validation (TEVV) activities.
Your new role
As the Artificial Intelligence Governance, Assurance & TEVV Specialist, you will play a key role in establishing and maturing Army's AI assurance and evaluation capability. Working within a highly specialised Defence environment, you will provide independent technical assurance, governance advice and AI evaluation expertise to support informed capability and operational decision-making.
- Developing and maintaining AI governance and assurance artefacts including Use Cases, Model Cards and System Cards.
- Reviewing AI-related policies, frameworks, submissions and technical documentation.
- Providing governance, risk and assurance advice to senior Defence stakeholders.
- Supporting AI Test, Evaluation, Verification and Validation (TEVV) activities.
- Assessing AI-enabled systems, performance claims, technical evidence, risks and limitations.
- Supporting Defence-led and third-party assurance and evaluation activities.
- Engaging with Defence, industry, academia and government stakeholders.
- Translating technical findings into concise reports and decision-support recommendations.
- Identifying AI-related risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Supporting the secure and responsible adoption of AI across Defence capability programs.
What you'll need to succeed
- Relevant qualifications in AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or a related STEM discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years' experience across AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, governance, assurance, systems engineering, test and evaluation, or technology risk.
- Experience assessing technical evidence and providing recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of AI assurance, AI governance, risk management, Responsible AI or technology assurance frameworks.
- Experience with verification, validation, testing, systems engineering, experimentation or operational analysis.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Australian Citizenship.
- Active NV1 Security Clearance (minimum requirement).
Highly regarded:
- Defence, Defence Industry, National Security or Federal Government experience.
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, AI governance or AI certification.
- Azure AI, AWS AI/ML or similar cloud AI platforms.
- Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch or Scikit-Learn experience.
- AI, Systems Engineering or Cloud certifications.
