Sales Manager – Sydney | $100k+ Package
A note from Jaz, Co-Founder of Modus Brewing & NORT
Hi, We’re looking for a Sales Manager to join our team in Sydney, but probably not in the traditional beer-sales sense.
We don't want to hand you a postcode map, draw a line around a territory and tell you to stay inside it.
That's not how our sales team works.
You'll be based in Sydney, working alongside another Sydney-based Sales Manager who brings extensive craft beer sales experience. Together, you'll spend plenty of time across the Northern Beaches and wider Sydney market, but we don't divide the city into individual territories.
An opportunity might take either of you to the Eastern Suburbs, Bathurst, Northern Rivers or interstate. We also have two Sales Managers based in Newcastle who predominantly cover Newcastle, the Central Coast and Mid North Coast, but again, there are no hard borders.
We're one sales team. We share opportunities, play to each other's strengths and we all win together.
First, the package
We want great salespeople to be well rewarded for selling. Base salary: $75,000-$85,000 + super, depending on experience Vehicle: Brand-new dual-cab company vehicle Benefits: Company phone, laptop and generous annual Modus venue allowance Bonus: Performance-based bonus for achieving sales targets, with additional upside for exceptional performance
Combined, this is a $100k+ package, with further earning potential for strong performance.
And yes, the bonus is genuinely achievable, our sales team is on track to achieve its Q1 target this financial year.
We'll take shortlisted candidates through the full remuneration and bonus structure during the interview process.
You'll be selling two very different brands
Grant and I started Modus Brewing in 2014. More than a decade later, we're still Australian owned and independent, with two breweries, two venues and beers spanning Japanese Lager, Pacific Ale and Cerveza through to Pales and IPAs of every possibility,
craft lagers and limited releases in all forms. Then there's NORT, our non-alcoholic beer brand, ranged nationally across Australia and the fastest-growing part of our wholesale business.
NORT isn't an add-on to this role. It's a major part of what you'll be selling and a major part of where we're going.
One day you might be selling a keg of Modus into a pub. The next, building a NORT ranging opportunity with a retailer, restaurant or an entirely different type of customer.
That's one of the things I love about this role, you get to sell beer in just about every form it comes in, across two brands with very different opportunities.
We're changing the way we sell
We're investing in new technology, systems and automation to make our sales operation more collaborative, more efficient and importantly, less admin heavy… because sales folk should be selling. You'll report directly to me as Founder, working alongside our other Sales Managers in a relatively flat structure.
That means autonomy, visibility and the prospect to make a genuine impact. And as our business and sales function continue to grow, there is plenty of room for great people to grow with us.
What you'll actually be doing
This is a hands-on sales role across on-premise and off-premise. You'll build new business and grow existing customers across pubs, bars, restaurants, independent retailers, retail groups and national accounts.
You'll be out seeing customers, opening doors, building relationships, presenting products, doing tastings, merchandising and activating launches.
You'll also work closely with marketing,
operations and production and bring opportunities and market intelligence back into the wider business.
There will be travel, events and plenty of time on the road.
Who we're looking for
You need to know how to sell, but it doesn't have to be beer. You might come from FMCG, beverages, hospitality, food, wine, spirits or somewhere completely different.
We're looking for sales experience, initiative and commercial instinct. Someone who knows how to build relationships, spot an opportunity and turn it into revenue.
You'll need to be comfortable managing yourself. There isn't going to be someone holding your hand or telling you which door to knock on next.
And importantly, you need to be a team player.
If your instinct is to protect “your accounts” and “your territory”, we're probably not the sales team for you.
If it's “there's an opportunity, how do we win it?”, we should talk.
Why now?
This is a genuinely exciting time to join our sales team. Modus has been here since 2014 and continues to find new opportunities for truly independent Australian beer. At the same time, NORT is our fastest-growing brand, giving our sales team access to customers, occasions and opportunities well beyond traditional beer.
We're stable, we're investing in our people and systems, and we're ambitious about what comes next.
If you want to sell great products, have autonomy over how you do it, be rewarded when you perform and help build the next stage of Modus and NORT, I'd love to hear from you.
Send us your resume and a personalised cover letter telling me a little about you, what you've sold and why you think you'd be great at selling Modus and NORT.
And please write it yourself - no AI. I want to hear your voice, not ChatGPT's.
