Position Details
Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a Physical and Outdoor Education Assistant (Traineeship) to become an integral part of the College’s Health and Physical Education Learning Area.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and organised individual with a passion for sport, physical activity and working with young people. This traineeship provides an exciting prospect to gain practical, hands-on experience within a secondary school environment while completing an accredited Certificate III in Sports, Aquatics and Recreation through TAFE.
The Physical and Outdoor Education Assistant will support the delivery of the College’s physical and outdoor education programs, helping to create a safe, engaging and positive learning environment for students.
The successful applicant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
- Assisting teaching staff with the preparation and delivery of Physical and Outdoor Education and specialist lessons.
- Supporting and supervising students during physical activities, encouraging participation, safety and inclusivity.
- Assisting with the planning and delivery of College sporting events, camps and extracurricular activities.
- Supporting the organisation, administration and delivery of ACC and CAS programs.
- Assisting with the coordination and administration of camps and excursions.
- Setting up, maintaining and organising sporting and outdoor education equipment and resources.
- Ensuring equipment and resources are prepared and available for lessons, activities and events.
- Assisting with administrative processes associated with Physical and Outdoor Education programs.
- Promoting positive behaviour,
teamwork and respect in accordance with the College’s Catholic values.
Selection Criteria The successful applicant will demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.
You Will
- Have a genuine interest in sport, physical activity, outdoor education and working with young people.
- Be willing and able to successfully complete an accredited Certificate III in Sports, Aquatics and Recreation through TAFE as part of the traineeship.
- Have an understanding of fundamental physical education principles, sports and fitness activities.
- Demonstrate an awareness of health and safety requirements associated with physical activity.
- Ideally have experience participating in sporting teams, coaching and/or organising recreational activities.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate positively with students and staff.
- Demonstrate strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Be flexible, confident and willing to assist across a variety of tasks and activities.
- Be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Have computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Hold, or be willing to obtain, the required Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance.
- Be committed to creating a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all students.
Qualifications Required
Terms of Employment
- Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
- Hold a National Police Clearance with the Department of Education.
- Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.
- Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training.
