Join the CaPTA Group as our Aviary Supervisor at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, where you will lead a dedicated team in creating memorable experiences for guests from around the world while helping maintain a thriving butterfly environment.
About the Role
As the Aviary Supervisor you will lead the day-to-day Aviary operations of the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. This role is responsible for overseeing aviary and assisting with retail functions, ensuring butterfly health and wellbeing, delivering exceptional guest experiences, and supporting a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation of the aviary and visitor experience areas, ensuring high standards of animal care, presentation, customer service, and operational efficiency.
- Lead, support, and develop team members through effective supervision, training, rostering, and performance management.
- Maintain butterfly health and welfare through effective aviary management, including pupae handling, releases, and coordination with laboratory and gardening teams.
- Deliver exceptional guest experiences through engaging guided tours, educational presentations, and professional customer interactions.
- Assist with retail operations, including customer service, merchandising, stock monitoring, and point of sale processes as required.
- Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements, company policies, procedures, and regulatory obligations.
- Maintain accurate operational and animal care records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You'll bring:
- A genuine interest in learning about butterflies and moths, with a commitment to maintaining a high level of knowledge.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience in retail, tourism, or similar environment
- Strong customer service and team leadership capability
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple operational areas
- Effective communication and decision-making skills
- Availability to work a set roster (Friday–Tuesday), including weekends and public holidays
- Experience in staff supervision, coaching, and training
- An understanding of workplace health and safety protocols.
- Hold and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain shortly after commencement.
Desirable (optional but recommended):
- Experience in wildlife, tourism, or environmental/conservation-based operations
- Knowledge or enthusiasm for butterfly care and native flora.
- Knowledge of POS or reservations systems
