About the role

Lillies Cubby House is seeking a Cook to join our team on a full-time, fixed-term maternity leave contract commencing in January 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your culinary expertise to our early childhood education and care setting in Ayr, QLD. As a Centre Cook, you will play a vital role in providing nutritious, delicious and age-appropriate meals that support the health, development and wellbeing of our children.

What you'll be doing

- Planning and preparing balanced, nutritious meals and snacks that meet the dietary requirements and preferences of children across all age groups
- Adhering to food safety, hygiene and allergen management protocols to ensure the health and safety of all children
- Managing kitchen operations, including food ordering, inventory control, stock rotation and equipment maintenance
- Accommodating special dietary needs, cultural preferences and allergies as required




- Working collaboratively with educators and families to ensure meals align with the centre's nutrition policies and individual child requirements
- Maintaining accurate records of meal preparation, food temperatures and allergen information
- Keeping the kitchen environment clean, organised and compliant with relevant food handling legislation and standards
- Supporting the centre's commitment to sustainable practices through waste reduction and appropriate food sourcing
- Assisting with special events, celebrations and menu planning as needed

What we're looking for

- Recognised qualification in commercial cookery or food preparation, or equivalent demonstrated experience in a professional kitchen environment
- Current Blue card, first aid and CPR
- Willing to obtain Food safety supervisor training & Child safety training
- Knowledge of food safety standards relevant to food service in childcare settings
- Understanding of child nutrition requirements and ability to prepare age-appropriate meals and snacks
- Familiarity with managing allergies, intolerances and special dietary requirements in a childcare context




- Strong organisational and time management skills to manage multiple meal preparations and kitchen operations
- Excellent hygiene practices and attention to detail in food preparation and storage
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with educators and families
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt menus based on feedback and changing requirements
- Previous experience in a childcare or early education setting is highly valued but not mandatory
