The Role QT Melbourne is a 5-star, 188-room design hotel in the heart of the city's theatre district on Russell Street, home to some of Melbourne's most distinctive dining and bar experiences including Pascale Bar & Grill, Yamagen, Bar 133 and the iconic Rooftop at QT. We're looking for a Chief Engineer to lead the hotel's engineering and facilities function, ensuring every building system, piece of plant and piece of infrastructure operates safely, efficiently and reliably day in and day out. This is a permanent, full-time role reporting directly to the Hotel General Manager. If you're an experienced engineering leader who takes pride in running a tight, high-performing department and understands the unique demands of a premium hotel environment, this is the role for you.





Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the hotel engineering department, setting high standards of service delivery, safety and professionalism across Maintenance Supervisors and Technicians.
- Oversee all reactive and preventative maintenance across the property, ensuring issues are responded to efficiently, resolved to the required standard and work orders are managed through the hotel maintenance system.
- Manage the performance and reliability of all building systems including HVAC, electrical, hydraulic and plumbing, fire safety, essential services, kitchen and laundry equipment and plant room infrastructure.
- Oversee all engineering contractors operating on property, monitoring performance, quality of work and compliance with hotel procedures, and ensuring all documentation, certifications and sign-offs are completed correctly.
- Maintain engineering compliance registers, coordinate statutory inspections and essential services servicing, and ensure defects identified during compliance activities are rectified promptly.
- Lead the engineering department's contribution to the hotel's WHS programme, ensuring safe work practices are maintained across all engineering and contractor activities.
- Manage the engineering maintenance operating budget, control expenditure within approved limits and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitor energy and utilities consumption across the property, investigating anomalies and driving initiatives to improve energy efficiency.

What You'll Bring

- A trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, plumbing or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Significant experience in hotel engineering, building maintenance or facilities management,



including proven leadership of engineering teams and contractors in a complex building environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of building systems and plant operations including HVAC, electrical, hydraulic, fire safety and essential services.
- Solid understanding of engineering compliance requirements and essential services management in a hotel or commercial building context.
- Financial awareness and demonstrated experience managing an operational maintenance budget.
- Robust leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive departmental performance.
- A current trade licence in a relevant discipline and experience with maintenance management systems such as MyBuildings are highly desirable.
