Civil Supervisor / Surveillance Officer – Main Roads WA Projects
Milo Geotechnical | Perth & Regional Western Australia Contract / Project-Based Opportunities
Join an Experienced Main Roads WA Delivery Team
Milo Geotechnical is expanding its civil infrastructure team and is seeking experienced Civil Supervisors and Surveillance Officers for current and upcoming Main Roads Western Australia projects across metropolitan and regional WA. We are looking for practical, experienced civil professionals who understand road construction, can confidently represent the client on site, and know what good workmanship, documentation and contract compliance look like.
If you have substantial experience across earthworks, pavements, drainage, road construction, rehabilitation or maintenance works, we would like to hear from you.
Opportunities may include Perth-based, regional and FIFO/project-based assignments across Western Australia.
The Role
Working within a Main Roads project delivery environment, you will provide site supervision, surveillance and inspection services to support the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of civil works. Depending on the assignment, you may work closely with the Superintendent, Superintendent's Representative, project engineers, contractors, laboratory personnel and other members of the project delivery team.
Your role will include monitoring construction activities against contract requirements, Main Roads specifications, approved drawings, quality documentation and relevant standards.
This is a hands-on site role requiring sound civil construction knowledge, professional judgement and accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities may include:
- Undertaking daily site surveillance and inspection of civil construction activities.
- Monitoring contractor activities for compliance with Main Roads WA specifications, drawings, contract requirements and approved quality documentation.
- Providing surveillance across earthworks, pavement construction, drainage, roadworks, rehabilitation and general civil works.
- Monitoring Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), hold points and witness points.
- Reviewing construction activities, testing requirements, workmanship and completed works.
- Identifying and documenting non-conforming work, defects and potential compliance issues.
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive daily site diaries, surveillance records, photographs and supporting documentation.
- Monitoring contractor resources,
plant, personnel, progress and construction activities.
- Assisting with verification of completed works and quantities where required.
- Participating in pre-starts, toolbox meetings, progress meetings, risk assessments and site inspections.
- Liaising professionally with contractors while maintaining the independence expected of a client-side surveillance role.
- Escalating technical, contractual, safety or quality issues to the appropriate member of the project team.
- Supporting the Superintendent's Representative and broader project team with construction and contract administration activities.
- Promoting strong standards of safety, quality, environmental compliance and professional conduct.
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed their experience through Main Roads WA, major road infrastructure projects or comparable civil construction environments. Ideally, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in civil construction supervision, surveillance, inspection or works supervision.
- Strong practical knowledge of road construction and maintenance activities.
- Demonstrated experience across one or more of:
- Earthworks
- Pavement construction
- Drainage
- Road formation
- Asphalt and surfacing works
- Road rehabilitation
- Road maintenance
- Structures and associated civil works
- Previous Main Roads WA project experience is highly regarded.
- Knowledge of Main Roads WA specifications and quality requirements.
- Experience working under AS2124 or similar civil construction contracts is highly regarded.
- A strong understanding of construction quality assurance, ITPs and inspection requirements.
- Excellent site documentation and record-keeping skills.
- The confidence to identify and address quality or compliance issues professionally.
- Robust communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers and client representatives.
- Sound judgement and the ability to make practical decisions in an active construction environment.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety and professional standards.
Relevant civil construction, engineering, technical or supervisory qualifications will be well regarded; however, substantial practical road construction and surveillance experience is equally important.
Main Roads WA Experience
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have previously worked as: Surveillance Officers | Civil Supervisors | Works Supervisors | Site Supervisors | Construction Supervisors | Roadworks Inspectors | Superintendent's Representative Support Personnel
Experience working directly for, or on projects delivered for, Main Roads Western Australia will be highly regarded.
