Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated and experienced Clinical Psychologist to join the Nepean Blue Mountains Family Metabolic Health Service (FMHS) on a temporary maternity leave cover basis commencing in January 2027.

The Family Metabolic Health Service is a specialist multidisciplinary service providing evidence-based assessment, intervention and support for people living with obesity and metabolic health conditions across the lifespan. The service includes the KidsFit4Future Clinic for children aged 2 to 14 years, the OPAL Clinic for obstetric patients, and the Adult Healthy Weight Clinic for adolescents and adults aged 16 years and over. FMHS provides care primarily to outpatients across the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, with occasional inpatient consultations, and delivers both individual and group programs through face-to-face and virtual models of care.

As a Clinical Psychologist within FMHS,



you will provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention for children, adolescents, adults and families engaged with the service. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of innovative, patient-centred care that supports sustainable improvements in health and wellbeing.

The successful applicant will play a key role in the ongoing development and delivery of obesity and metabolic health services across the district. This includes supporting the growth of an integrated virtual care program focused on obesity management and the prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, while ensuring high-quality, evidence-based psychological care is embedded across all service streams.

In addition to providing clinical services, this position is actively involved in quality improvement, service development and research activities that contribute to advancing best practice in obesity medicine. The role also provides clinical supervision and support to junior staff and students, contributing to the development of the future health workforce.

- Accredited post-graduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and full registration as a Psychologist with APHRA with endorsement to practice as a Clinical Psychologist or working towards endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.
- Clinical experience with chronic and complex diseases and demonstrated high level of knowledge, skills and clinical expertise, with a particular interest in obesity and metabolic health.
- Demonstrated ability to provide psychological assessment and deliver evidence-based psychological treatment with sensitivity and compassion. Demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes, identify and manage problems in relation to group dynamics and to promote and support team-based solutions.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and complete quality improvement and service evaluation processes and ensure that evidence-based medicine and bet practice are fostered amongst staff. Skills in clinical supervision (if appropriate), student teaching and training.
- Demonstrated ability to enhance the FMHS via review of service provision and practice development and/or redesign to ensure value-based care.
- Evidence of formal research activities in the field of obesity or metabolic health or chronic disease management.
- Current NSW driver's licence, or equivalent.
