A Community Engagement role focussed on supporting the delivery of a conservation project for the Illawarra Lowlands Grassy Woodlands threatened ecological community

- Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $119,292.00 to $134,587.00 + super

The Illawarra Ecosystems and Threatened Species team is seeking to appoint a Community Engagement Officer to June 30, 2027, to support the development, implementation and reporting on a conservation project for the threatened ecological community, Illawarra Lowlands Grassy Woodlands and for the Thick Lip Spider Orchid. The Engagement Officer will bring together partners operating across the four local government areas of Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven. You will identify and build partnerships with stakeholders managing important remnants and sites for developing landscape links between remnants and help build interest in the Illawarra Lowlands Grassy Woodlands in the community and in community organisations.

About You

You will enjoy innovation, but you will have experience in reporting project progress and outcomes within standardised government systems. You will have experience in supporting conservation projects with a strong focus on engagement and in documenting and sharing the progress of your projects with highly invested partners.



You will have proven successful experience in building trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders and working with land managers to achieve conservation outcomes.

You will understand how to build networks and, if possible, will bring some of those networks with you to this role. You will have experience in developing and delivering community events including volunteer opportunities.

You will have general skills in fauna, flora and threatened ecological community species identification and you will have experience in sharing these skills with stakeholders. Skills in publishing, storytelling and volunteer management will be useful. You will have a robust and proven commitment to work, health and safety outcomes for yourself, your team and your community partners.

Essential Requirements

- A science degree or a degree in a relevant natural resource discipline.
- A valid Australian driver’s licence, with four-wheel drive experience and training preferable.
