We’re looking for someone a few years into their community engagement career who wants to keep learning while taking on more responsibility.
This is a junior to mid-level role within our Audience Insights & Engagement team, supporting inclusive engagement with communities across Australia. You’ll work closely with experienced practitioners and contribute across both the relationship and coordination sides of the work.
The role can be based in either Melbourne (South Melbourne) or Sydney (Surry Hills).
About the role
As Community Engagement Specialist, you’ll support projects from early planning through to delivery.
That might mean coordinating with community organisations, helping organise consultations and workshops, keeping stakeholders informed, or making sure the practical pieces of a project are on track.
We’re looking for someone with a good foundation, strong organisational skills and an interest in growing into a more experienced engagement practitioner over time.
Key responsibilities include
Community engagement and delivery
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, organisations and networks.
- Support the planning and delivery of community engagement activities across multiple projects.
- Recruit and coordinate participants for consultations, interviews, focus groups and workshops.
- Coordinate case studies, community ambassadors and subject matter experts.
- Assist with facilitating community discussions and engagement activities.
- Help ensure engagement activities are culturally responsive, inclusive and well organised.
Project coordination
- Coordinate engagement activities across client projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
- Prepare stakeholder lists, contact databases and engagement materials.
- Manage schedules, logistics and communications for engagement activities and events.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, participant databases and project documentation.
- Support reporting, evaluation and project administration.
Team and client support
- Work collaboratively with project teams to deliver engagement activities to a high standard.
- Share community insights and observations with the broader project team.
- Support proposal development and other business development activities where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engagement processes, resources and ways of working.
About you
We’re looking for someone with the drive, curiosity and capability to grow into the role. You don’t need to have mastered everything already, but you’ll likely bring:
- Around 2-3 years' experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement, communications or a related field.
- Experience working alongside diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Highly organised, with excellent coordination and administrative capability.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced workplace.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced practitioners.
- Culturally responsive, empathetic and thoughtful in the way you work.
- Comfortable travelling nationally when required.
Most importantly, you're someone who understands that great engagement isn't transactional. You build trust, listen carefully, follow through on commitments, and genuinely care about creating opportunities for people to have their voices heard.
