Summary:
Developing and supporting Community Connections, focused on the communities of Bullsbrook and Midland. The project facilitator supports community capacity building through a process of community engagement, training and supporting volunteer community leaders to organise and deliver meaningful community activities. Building connections and partnerships with community services in the Bullsbrook Midland area, The Project’s outcomes include people in the targeted communities:
- Developing social connections within their community.
- Participating in and contributing to their local community.
- Learning new skills and knowledge.
Key Responsibilities and Performance Expectations
Organisational
- Operate in accordance with the Indigo Junction Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Operate within the Indigo Junction Staff Code of Conduct.
- Supply reports to the Manager pertaining to any reportable incidents.
- Implement procedures and maintain data collection for Indigo Junction contract requirements.
- Maintain good records and support program evaluation, reporting and audit processes as required.
- Other duties as directed by Indigo Junction Management
Community Development
- Using a partnership approach:
- Conduct ongoing community asset mapping.
- Plan and implement a range of strategies to consult with community members in a process of co-design.
- Establish relationships and develop networks with existing community leaders, groups and stakeholders.
- Build team-oriented partnerships with key stakeholders including local service providers and businesses to advance the aims of the Community Link Project.
- Engage with a diverse range of community members, including children, families and individuals to plan and deliver a range of activities that are welcoming, inclusive and build social connectedness.
- Develop opportunities and provide support for individuals to participate in their communities and learn new skills.
Volunteer Development
- Recruit, train and develop the skills of volunteers to lead community activities.
- Develop and deliver training programs for volunteers.
- Provide ongoing support to Community Links volunteers.
Operational
- Liaise with the Manager regarding budgets and reporting requirements.
- Ensure that community participants are as fully involved as possible in decisions that affect them.
- Manage the operation of the Project within budgetary and contractual parameters.
- Prepare all written Project reports for submission to management and funding bodies
Selection Criteria
Essential
Qualifications and/or training and/or licences:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant human services area and at least 3 years appropriate experience; or demonstrate equivalent.
Experience and knowledge:
- Experience in community engagement.
- Experience in coordination, support and development activities for groups
- Sound understanding of the principles of Trauma Informed Care.
- A commitment to the notion of empowerment and self-determination.
- Understanding of the cultural and social factors of homelessness and other crisis.
- Experience in providing advocacy and referral.
- Knowledge of community and government resources.
- Cultural competence and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Skills and Attributes:
- High level of interpersonal skills.
- High level communications skills, both written and oral.
- High level negotiations and advocacy skills.
- Sound self-management, time management and organisational skills.
- Computing skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database.
Training and/or Licences and/or clearances:
- Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
- Current National Police Clearance.
- Working With Children Clearance.
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
