A gentleman living in Taringa is looking for new support workers to assist him with morning routines, personal care and community access. He is married, a stepfather and grandfather, he lives with his wife, son and grandson. He believes in support that is based on mutual respect, confidentiality, trust and honesty.
His impairment does not define him, through the support of his family, friends’ and mentors is identified as a leader nationally and internationally in human rights advocacy and legislative change particularly for people with disability. He currently works full time.
Ideal candidates will have experience supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries and will be comfortable and confident with the level of personal care required. He acquired a spinal injury 45 years ago (quadriplegia) and requires support with mobility, transfers, skin integrity checks, bowel care and bladder management. Full training is provided for the role.
Key Duties:
- Mobility Support / Transfers
- Personal Care (including bladder & bowel care, skin checks showering & grooming)
- Meal Preparation
- Medication management
- Transport & Community Access
Support Worker Qualities:
- Open minded
- Comfortable with level of personal care required
- Respectful of the gentleman & his family
- Effective time management skills
- Clear communication
- Punctual & well presented
- Committed long term
Shifts Available:
- 6am to 8am - Monday to Sunday
- Weekend shifts for Community Access - 3 - 5 hours (9am / 10 am / 11am start - depending on the day's activities)
Approximately 10 - 15 hours per week available Pay Rates: TBC - commensurate to skills, experience and qualifications
Requirements
- +2 years experience disability support work or equivalent, relevant role
- Experience supporting individuals with spinal injuries (highly regarded)
- Comfortable with all aspects of personal care including bowel and bladder care
- Open Queensland Driver’s Licence and own vehicle with insurance
- First Aid and CPR Certification (or willing to obtain)
- Living within reasonable travelling distance
- Rights to work in Australia
