About the role To deliver high-quality, evidence-informed teaching and holistic pastoral care that advances student learning, wellbeing and engagement in accordance with MACS policies, the College Vision for Instruction and the Vision for Engagement. Practice is grounded in the Science of Learning, responsive teaching approaches and the Flourishing Learners framework.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with appropriate staff in planning and delivering evidence informed lessons that engage learners, are differentiated to meet diverse needs and reflect MACS Vision for Instruction & Engagement.
- Contribute to whole school curriculum planning and ensure compliance with state and national course requirements, including the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (AITSL Standards).
- Prepare clear lesson documentation and resources and allocate appropriate time to planning and moderation with colleagues.
- Employ a range of high impact teaching strategies (explicit instruction, scaffolding, modelling, feedback loops, retrieval practice) and integrate digital learning tools responsibly to implement the curriculum and enrich learning.
- Use formative and summative assessment to inform teaching, provide timely feedback to students and adjust instruction (data informed responsive practice).
- Maintain accurate assessment and attendance records and report on student achievement in accordance with College timelines, guidelines and policies.
- Create and maintain a child-safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment that promotes belonging, resilience and student flourishing, consistent with College and MACS visions and Child Safety policies.
- Comply with all MACS and College Child Safety policies and procedures, including mandatory reporting obligations, ensuring appropriate procedures are followed.
- Proactively monitor student wellbeing, using a trauma informed, strengths based approach and make timely referrals to House Leaders, Counsellors and Learning Diversity staff as needed.
- Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and invited school events, assemblies, liturgical celebrations and required House/year-level activities.
About you
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration (essential)
- Demonstrated understanding of the ethos of a Catholic school and its mission
- Demonstrated experience working with children and young people in educational or pastoral contexts
- Clear understanding of child safety principles and obligations, including the requirements of the Child Safe Standards
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, appropriate professional boundaries and behaviours when engaging with children, young people and their families
- Familiarity with and capacity to meet all legal and policy obligations relating to child safety, including mandatory reporting and reportable conduct
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially as part of a qualified learning community
