The AMA ACT Branch is seeking an experienced and influential Executive Officer to lead the operation of the Branch and support the advocacy, governance and strategic priorities of doctors across the ACT.

About the AMA

The AMA is Australia's peak professional membership organisation for doctors and medical students, promoting and protecting the professional interests of the medical profession while advocating for high-quality healthcare for all Australians. The ACT Branch represents doctors and patients across the Territory, advocating on health system, workforce and public policy issues while supporting members through engagement, representation and professional collaboration.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager, Branches, and working closely with the ACT President and ACT Council, the Executive Officer is responsible for the effective operation of the AMA ACT Branch and serves as the principal adviser to Branch leadership. The role is responsible for supporting the delivery of strategic objectives, governance responsibilities, advocacy priorities and member engagement activities, while ensuring the Branch operates efficiently within AMA governance, financial and administrative frameworks.

The Executive Officer will

- Lead the effective operation of the AMA ACT Branch.
- Support the ACT President and Council in delivering strategic priorities and organisational objectives.
- Coordinate governance processes, Council meetings, committee support and implementation of decisions.
- Lead advocacy initiatives, policy development, submissions and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with government, health services, medical leaders and other key stakeholders.




- Support member engagement, retention and growth initiatives.
- Contribute to budget planning and oversee Branch operational activities.
- Represent the Branch in approved forums, meetings and stakeholder engagements.

A key component of the role is providing strategic leadership and advice to the ACT President and Council, ensuring the Branch remains a credible and influential voice for doctors and patients in the ACT.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the implementation of the AMA ACT Strategic Plan and Council priorities.
- Prepare Council and committee papers, reports and governance documentation.
- Monitor and report on Branch performance, advocacy activities and strategic outcomes.
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement and government relations activities.
- Drive member communications, events and engagement initiatives.
- Support workforce advocacy and workplace relations priorities.
- Work collaboratively with AMA national teams including policy, communications, finance, governance and member engagement.
- Ensure Branch operations are managed effectively within approved delegations and organisational policies.

About You - Selection Criteria

We are seeking candidates with:
- Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership, management or executive role.
- Experience supporting boards, councils, committees or elected governance bodies.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Experience in policy development, advocacy or government engagement.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A commitment to delivering outcomes for members and supporting the objectives of the AMA.

Experience within a membership, professional, healthcare, government or not-for-profit organisation will be highly regarded. Relevant qualifications in management, public policy, health, law, industrial relations, communications, business or a related discipline are desirable, although equivalent senior executive experience will also be considered.
