The Role

We are seeking an experienced FIFO Leading Hand to join our site operations team on a 2:1 FIFO roster, working in our Leonora Processing Yard. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for coordinating day-to-day yard operations, leading a small team and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The successful candidate will be involved in the processing, sorting and preparation of ferrous metals for recycling, while assisting with broader site operations and operating mobile plant as required.

FIFO ex Perth, with flights, accommodation and meals covered.

Multiple shifts or DIDO available for the right applicant.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the yard team
- Allocate tasks and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to schedule
- Operate excavators, material handlers and other mobile plant as required
- Load and unload trucks, bins and trailers safely
- Sort and separate scrap steel by type and grade for processing and export
- Process scrap steel using fixed balers, shear balers and other processing equipment
- Monitor and maintain high standards of housekeeping and site organisation
- Conduct pre-start checks and basic maintenance on plant and equipment




- Identify and report hazards, incidents, equipment issues and operational concerns
- Work closely with management to achieve production, safety and operational targets

Skills & Experience

- Proven experience in a Leading Hand, Supervisor or senior operator role, preferably within scrap metal, mining, recycling or an industrial setting
- Strong excavator or material handling experience
- Experience loading and unloading trucks and handling heavy steel and scrap materials
- Experience operating or working around balers, shears or other scrap processing equipment highly regarded

- Ability to identify different grades of steel and non-ferrous metals
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
- Good communication and leadership skills

- Ability to lead by example and maintain a positive team culture
- Ability to work safely and efficiently both autonomously and as part of a team
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills

Requirements

- Valid C Class driver's licence
- Previous experience leading a team
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening

- Willingness to work in a high-risk environment with strict safety standards
- Availability to work a 2:1 FIFO roster, with overtime available
