About the Role
Guardian Mechanical Services is looking for a reliable, hands-on and motivated Fire Service Technician to join our growing Sydney team.
You do not need previous fire industry experience or trade qualifications to apply. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, who is practical, reliable and interested in developing a career in the fire services industry.
We will provide on-the-job training alongside experienced technicians, with the opportunity for the role to become a pathway into a formal Fire Protection apprenticeship for the right person.
You will work across a variety of commercial, residential, government and education sites, assisting with the inspection, testing and maintenance of essential fire safety systems.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will develop as your skills and experience grow and may include:
- Assisting with routine inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.
- Working with fire doors, fire and smoke dampers, extinguishers, hose reels and other essential fire safety measures.
- Assisting experienced technicians with fault finding, repairs and rectification works.
- Learning relevant Australian Standards, including AS 1851, and industry requirements.
- Completing digital service reports, inspection records and site documentation.
- Taking photographs and accurately recording equipment, test results and defects.
- Following SWMS, site procedures and Guardian's safety requirements.
- Communicating professionally with clients, site representatives and other team members.
- Maintaining tools,
equipment and company vehicles in good condition.
- Travelling to client sites across Sydney and, from time to time, regional NSW.
What We're Looking For
Technical experience or qualifications are not required. We are primarily looking for someone who:
- Is reliable, punctual and takes pride in their work.
- Enjoys practical, hands-on work and learning new skills.
- Has good attention to detail.
- Can follow procedures and safety requirements.
- Is comfortable using a phone or tablet for service reporting.
- Communicates professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Can work both independently and as part of a team.
- Is comfortable working at heights or in plant areas when appropriately trained.
- Has a strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Holds a current and valid Australian driver's licence.
Previous experience in a trade, maintenance, construction or technical environment is welcome, but it is not essential.
Career Pathway
This isn't just a job for someone who already has fire industry experience.
For someone who demonstrates the right attitude, ability and commitment, Guardian can provide a pathway to develop into a qualified fire industry technician, including the potential to undertake a formal Fire Protection apprenticeship while working with us.
If you've considered getting into a trade but haven't had the prospect or don't currently have qualifications, we encourage you to apply.

- On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced technicians.
