About the Position

FLEXY BROTHERS PTY LTD is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter (General) – Pallet Racking & Storage Systems to join our team in Melbourne, Victoria.

This is a full-time skilled trade position involving the fitting, assembly, installation, dismantling, modification, maintenance and repair of pallet racking, industrial shelving and associated mechanical and metal components used in warehouse storage systems.

The successful applicant will use their mechanical fitting skills to assemble and install fabricated metal components, inspect components for correct fit and alignment, identify faults and damage, undertake modifications and repairs, and ensure completed installations comply with technical drawings, manufacturer specifications and project requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities The successful applicant will be responsible for:

- Fitting and assembling fabricated metal parts and components used in pallet racking, industrial shelving and warehouse storage systems.
- Assembling and erecting pallet racking frames, beams, braces, base plates, supports, safety components and associated metal assemblies.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering plans, warehouse layouts and manufacturer specifications to determine installation and assembly requirements.
- Determining appropriate fitting, assembly and installation methods and the sequence of operations required to complete each project.
- Measuring, marking out, positioning, aligning and levelling metal components to ensure accurate installation.
- Checking fabricated metal components for accuracy, clearance, alignment and correct fit before and during assembly.
- Drilling and preparing metal components and fixing points as required for installation and modification work.
- Installing mechanical anchors, bolts, fasteners and other fixing systems used to secure pallet racking and associated equipment.
- Using hand tools, power tools, drilling equipment and precision measuring instruments to fit and assemble components accurately.
- Inspecting pallet racking and associated components to identify wear, damage, incorrect alignment, defective components and other mechanical or fitting issues.




- Diagnosing faults and carrying out adjustments, repairs and replacement of damaged or defective mechanical and metal components.
- Dismantling pallet racking, shelving and associated equipment for maintenance, modification, relocation or replacement.
- Reassembling and modifying existing racking and storage systems in accordance with approved drawings, layouts and specifications.
- Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical components, tools and equipment associated with installation operations.
- Checking completed assemblies and installations for correct fit, alignment, level, stability and conformity with specifications.
- Assisting with the erection and installation of warehouse equipment and associated storage system components on-site.
- Using measuring and testing equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances, alignment and installation accuracy.
- Identifying components that do not meet required specifications and carrying out corrective fitting or replacement where necessary.
- Maintaining tools and equipment in secure and serviceable condition.
- Completing installation, inspection, maintenance and repair records as required.
- Working closely with supervisors, installers, contractors and other trades to coordinate installation activities.
- Complying with Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), site safety procedures and all applicable workplace health and safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have

- A relevant trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Fitting, Fitting and Turning, or a closely related mechanical trade.
- Relevant practical experience working as a Fitter (General), Mechanical Fitter or in a comparable mechanical fitting position.




- Demonstrated experience fitting and assembling fabricated metal components and mechanical assemblies.
- Experience with pallet racking, industrial shelving, warehouse storage systems, structural metal assemblies or similar equipment is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, installation plans and layouts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding ability.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, drilling equipment and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to accurately measure, mark out, drill, fit, align and assemble metal components.
- Knowledge of mechanical fasteners, anchors, bolts and fixing methods.
- Ability to inspect components for accuracy, clearance, alignment, wear and damage.
- Ability to diagnose fitting problems and undertake repairs, adjustments and component replacement.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

Desirable Licences and Experience The following will be highly regarded:

- Previous pallet racking installation and dismantling experience.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence/ticket.
- Forklift licence.
- Working at Heights training.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Experience working in warehouses, distribution centres, factories and commercial facilities.
