About Disputes And Investigations

Our Disputes and Investigations group excels at guiding clients through complex and high stakes commercial disputes, class actions and regulatory matters.

In Melbourne, you will work directly with Janet Whiting, Christiana McCudden and Dan Moloney on some of the most complex and high profile disputes in the market.

Janet is one of Australia’s pre eminent commercial litigators, renowned for her strategic advice, detailed analysis and ability to secure commercial outcomes. Christiana is an accomplished commercial litigation partner with extensive experience acting on significant and complex proceedings. Dan has recently joined the partnership, bringing significant experience across class actions, regulatory disputes and commercial litigation and further strengthening the breadth and depth of the Melbourne practice.

The team acts on major commercial disputes, significant class actions and regulatory proceedings, often involving complex legal and factual issues, substantial financial and reputational exposure and issues of strategic importance to our clients. The team has also been instrumental in successful actions that have established important legal precedents.

About The Opportunity For a mid level lawyer, this is an opportunity to do more than support on large matters. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of significant aspects of a case, work directly with partners, clients and leading counsel, contribute to litigation strategy and see matters through from the early stages of a dispute to hearing.

Your work will span complex commercial litigation,

class actions and regulatory disputes, giving you exposure to a broad range of challenging matters and the opportunity to develop depth as a litigator.

Depending on the matter, you could be developing case strategy alongside the partners, preparing key evidence, pleadings and submissions, working directly with senior client stakeholders and counsel, managing important workstreams within major proceedings and preparing for and being closely involved in hearings and trials.

You will be challenged and supported to develop. You will work closely with partners who are invested in developing excellent litigators and who will give you greater responsibility as your capability and experience grow.

It is an opportunity to sharpen your technical skills, develop your strategic and commercial judgement and build the experience and confidence to become a trusted adviser to clients facing significant disputes.

You will also have the opportunity to work on and assist with the recently announced Royal Commission, with G+T appointed to represent the Victorian State Government.

About You

You are a talented litigator with approximately three to five years’ post admission experience who enjoys difficult problems, high quality work and being part of the strategy.

To Succeed In This Role, You Will Bring

- strong litigation experience, ideally across complex commercial disputes, class actions, regulatory litigation or a combination of these areas
- demonstrated court experience, including preparing pleadings and evidence, briefing counsel and preparing matters for hearing
- excellent analytical, legal reasoning and drafting skills
- the ability to get across complex factual, legal and commercial issues and identify what really matters
- sound commercial judgement and an ability to understand the broader objectives of the client
- confidence building relationships with clients, counsel and colleagues
- the ability to take ownership of matters and manage competing priorities
- a collaborative approach and an interest in supporting and developing junior lawyers

You do not need to have worked across every type of dispute or tick every box. We are interested in strong litigators with excellent fundamentals,

intellectual curiosity, sound judgement and the ambition to continue developing their practice.
