Legal Counsel – Major Projects | Front-End Projects (Sydney)

We are partnering with a global construction company as they expand their legal team.

This is an prospect for an experienced projects lawyer to move beyond traditional private practice and become embedded in the commercial and project teams delivering some of Australia’s largest and most complex infrastructure and construction projects.

If you have built your career advising major contractors, developers or infrastructure clients within a leading projects/construction practice, this is an opportunity to take the next step and gain genuine commercial ownership of the matters you advise on.

The Opportunity

Working closely with senior project, commercial and executive stakeholders, you will provide front-end legal and commercial advice across major projects, from tender and procurement through to contract negotiation, award and mobilisation.

Your role will include

- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating major construction and infrastructure contracts.
- Advising on tenders, bids, procurement and project strategy.
- Negotiating head contracts, consultant agreements, subcontracts and associated project documentation.
- Advising on risk allocation, liability, indemnities, insurance, warranties and security.
- Working closely with project directors, commercial managers, procurement teams and senior leadership.
- Providing commercially focused,



practical advice that supports successful project delivery.
- Identifying contractual risks and working with the business to develop pragmatic solutions.
- Building trusted relationships with project and commercial teams and becoming a key legal adviser to the business.

Who We’re Looking For

- 5–7 years’ post-admission experience.
- Strong front-end construction and infrastructure experience.
- Experience advising contractors, developers, government bodies or major infrastructure participants.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and contract management skills.
- Experience working with major project contracts.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide clear, practical and solutions-focused advice.
- The confidence and interpersonal skills to work directly with senior commercial and project stakeholders.

You may be a Senior Associate or experienced Associate in a leading construction practice considering your first move in-house, or an existing Legal Counsel looking for greater exposure to larger and more complex projects.

This role offers the opportunity to combine the quality, scale and complexity of major-project work with the commercial ownership, influence and proximity to decision making that comes from working in-house.
