About the role We are looking for Legal Support officer to join the International Assistance (IA) team in the Legal Capability and Performance (LCP) Practice Group within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth) (CDPP) to contribute to the work that support’s the CDPP’s role in delivering an effective and productive prosecution service. As a Legal Support Officer within the IA team, you will provide legal and administrative support across matters involving international evidence, mutual assistance, extradition and Criminal Justice Certificates (CJCs). A key focus of the role will be supporting prosecutors with CJC matters.
You will be the primary contact for CJC queries, prepare and coordinate documentation, and work closely with the Department of Home Affairs on CJC applications and cancellation requests. You will manage files, busy inboxes and a range of enquiries while building strong relationships with prosecutors and internal and external stakeholders.
What will you bring?
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to work under pressure, manage competing demands and meet deadlines with accuracy;
- Excellent judgement, attention to detail and decision-making skills;
- Administrative precision with proven ability to draft legal documentation, manage group inboxes, learn new systems quickly and process procurement and records via agency systems (EDRMS, TechOne, QBT Travel);
- Excellent written,
verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across the CDPP and with external agency partners; and
- Capability to triage diverse queries, maintain key risk and file registers, and manage high-volume workflows autonomously under broad direction.
What we are looking for
Someone who has
- Experience providing high quality administrative and legal support in a busy environment;
- Knowledge of legislation relevant to the IA practice including Migration Act 1958, Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act 1987 and Foreign Evidence Act 1994;
- Knowledge of IA National Legal Directions and the criminal justice visitor’s visa framework administered by the Department of Home Affairs,
- Discretion, integrity and attention to detail when handling sensitive and confidential information, drafting documents and maintaining accurate records;
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with initiative and the ability to manage multiple inboxes and competing priorities; and
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
