Norwood Secondary College is seeking a Gardener/Maintenance person to assist our Facilities Manager. This role is 38 hours per week (negotiable) for a fixed term, however, could lead to a further term of employment. Attendance during school term breaks will be required.

Position could suit somebody starting out in their career to somebody looking for a career change. Skilled trades person would be an advantage (not essential).

A current Employee Working With Children check is essential.

Responsibilities The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

· maintain a healthy and safe working setting by having knowledge of OH&S; regulations (can be provided), along with the Department of Education obligations/standards

· work with the OHS staff to oversee regular site inspections

· work cooperatively with a range of staff and contractors

· carrying out/maintain garden, grounds and general maintenance consistently to a high standard, including fertilising, raking/leaf blowing, weed control, watering, planting, hedging/pruning, mulching, irrigation checks and rubbish removal etc. in a friendly, safe manner

· regular cleaning of pathways and driveways, including use of high-pressure equipment

· actively contribute to the maintenance or replacement of tools and equipment, ensuring the safe use of equipment and machinery

· upkeep and maintain external drain pits,



spoon drains and other associated landscape elements

· assisting with the set-up/pack-up for events/functions/sporting requirements, and assist with the transportation of necessary equipment

· ensuring all requests are acknowledged and action taken in a timely manner

· assist the Buildings and Facilities manager with maintenance as required, such as painting, locker/furniture moving (some heavy lifting may be involved) etc.

· engage with the school community in a friendly and efficient manner, including assisting and mentoring students through programs of work such as our hands on learning team

· Mow the oval and other grassed areas of the school including line marking of the oval.

· Rubbish collections before tours and other school events

. Heavy Vehicle Driver Licence is an advantage

. Recording of jobs and invoices on administrative systems
